Gouldman scolds Galef

October
22

Bill Gouldman, GOP Assembly challenger in the 90th district, is expressing “outrage and shock” over the results of an audit by state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, that uncovered $407 million in extra reserve funds set aside by school districts to pay for departing employees’ unused leave time.

Gouldman of Putnam Valley said the reserves contributed to unnecessary property tax increases and he urged return of the funds to the districts in the form of tax relief.

Gouldman also took a shot at his opponent, Assemblywoman Sandra Galef, D-Ossining, chairwoman of the Real Property Tax Committee, for not flagging the existence of the funds.

Galef, who will debate Gouldman at 6:30 p.m. today at the Paramount Center for the Arts in Peekskill, said the Assembly does not oversee the school districts.

“The schools were given the wrong advice or they didn’t know what the law was,” Galef said. “Unfortunately, it was an artificial saving but it can be used to lower the tax burden next year.”

Sandy Galef failed us. Four-hundred-seven million dollars in hoarded school funds? This is not leadership. Time for a change.

  2. Donkey Darling

Desperate Candidate, Gouldman, trying everything he can. Not nearly enough.

Sandy has no responsibility for this. It is sad to see the conseervative boat sinking, and the drowning boys clinging to any little thing they can. Hee Haw!

Gouldman’s right on about this. Another disgrace. Why aren’t more candidates taking on the school and union lobbies? Answer: campaign funding and telephone marketing handed out free of charge (free, that is so long as you vote them more $ to squander.)

  4. X Factor

    Gouldman is right.

  5. Auditor

Four hundred seven million dollars? Taxpayer money hidden in “reserve funds?” That’s triple the yearly salaries for the overpaid Met’s entire 40 man roster. Fifteen times Tampa Bay’s. Who’s watching the cash register?
