Ruby Dee at Obama rally in New Ro

Posted by: Aman Ali - Posted in Barack Obama, New Rochelle on Oct 29, 2008

Actress Ruby Dee will kick off a rally for Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama at 2 p.m. on Saturday at New Rochelle City Hall.

The longtime New Rochelle resident was nominated for an Academy Award last year for her role in the film American Gangster and is a legend for her civil rights activism.

New Rochelle mayor Noam Bramson will also speak. Following the rally, the crowd will march down North Avenue in support for Obama for what organizers have dubbed as a “Parade for Change.”

In a democracy, City Hall is not a place for partisan political rallies.

I’m sure the republican party can organize a McCain rally if they like as well in New Rochelle

Ruby Dee is a great American, a thinking woman who is a glorious human being. And she was married to a great man, Ossie Davis, whose loss is felt in both theatre and in the film business.

She has been a magnificent actor for many years. Most recently, she played the role of Denzel Washington’s mother, in “American Gangster.” You’ll remember she played the role of the “good mother.”

I hope that none of my fellow Republicans, of a conservative stripe as I am, will ever criticize Ms. Dee for her political passion. Instead, she is to be congratulated and loved for her intellect and perspicaciousness.

When I was a child, I remember seeing “Raisin in the Sun” at the same time as “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” I forget whether I cried more at Audrey Hepburn’s dismissal of “Cat” (and George Peppard’s subsequent rescue of that great beauty) or of Ms. Dee’s passion in confronting the ignorance of the Chicago bigots who were trying to exclude her and her family from a decent home.

If I ever hear anybody criticize Ruby Dee in my presence, I’ll smack him.

Don’t ever bad-mouth Ruby Dee in my presence.

Too bad smart porpose. It should be easy to gather the 12 people who support in McCain in the Sound Shore area and organize your own McCain parade.

Ruby Dee is, socially, a one note Annie. Everything is race, every topic, every statement (even when it’s cushioned under the armpit of “art.” Ossie was no different. When a person comes at EVERY issue from a racial point of view, they are no better than those whom we justifiably vilify for doing the very same thing from the other direction.

There are more than 12 persons who are voting for McCain in the Sound Shore area, “pglore,”so don’t be too smug. (I live in the Hudson Valley region, across the Sound from where you purport to be.)

Don’t grind it up the ass of those who vote Republican. There’s nothing more ugly than an unthinking, reactionary “liberal.” Or a coward who doesn’t use his real name.

    Correct again, Smartporpoise.

City Hall is about the people it works for….not a single party…. one way or the other. Just as patriotism and the flag belongs to us ALL… as does the city grounds! I’m sure there’s a couple slots for whatever great cause you come up with as well.
The Parade and Rally for Change sounds like a great idea & a great cause… Westchester could use a bit of hope and excitement too! I have had the pleasure of sharing so many great conversations with many amazing, bright and passionate OBAMA/BIDEN supporters.

As for Smartporpoise and your racial comments…. YOU seem to be the only one OBSESSED with RACE… sounds like you need some therapy to work out your issues! By the way… your rhetoric doesn’t sound so smart…. consider a new name.

See the rest of you in NEW RO on Sat! Yes We CAN!!!!

    Barack ON!

Ma’am, if I accept you general rule
That every porpoise is a fool,
Can we agree on one small notion,
That every fool’s not in the ocean?
