Different way to vote for Obama

Posted by: Jay Gallagher - Posted in Uncategorized on Oct 30, 2008

Barack Obama supporters who feel frustrated that their votes won’t count for much next Tuesday because New York is a lock the the Democrat have been given an option to make them feel better about it: voting for him on a minor-party line.

Voting for the Illinois senator on the Working Families Party line will “send a clear message: be bold,’’ the party said in a release today.

The union-backed party,  which has endorsed Obama for president, is on Row E on the ballot, after the Democratic, Republican, Independence and Conservative parties. New York is one of the few states that allow candidates to appear on more than one line on the same ballot.

The party has pushed for universal health care, a raise in the minimum wage, more help for holder of sub-prime mortgages and ending the war in Iraq, among other issues.

The rationale is the more votes Obama gets on the party line, the more pressure he will feel to adopt their agenda.

“They will only be as bold as we can make them,’’ the party said in a statement.

I feel that since I wanted HIllary to be the Democratic nominee voting for Obama on another parties line is a way to reinforce that.

  2. yonkers

i question the political practices of the working families party, who are also closely tied to ACORN.

  3. the consultant

i question the practices of every minor party because
they are in a position to extract promises from the
    major party candidates they endorse

Sorta like the unions and the Albany pols.

And like every broken-down, disgraced former politician or politically connected should-be felon who escaped prosecution and, with fistfuls of cash for sale, became a successful lobbyist.

Hall adviser fired, linked to Ohio voting fraud probe

    By Alexa James
    Times Herald-Record
    October 29, 2008

NEW PALTZ — Congressman John Hall (D-Dover Plains) fired one of his long-time campaign advisers Tuesday, after learning that she’s embroiled in voter fraud investigations in Ohio.

Amy Little, 49, has been a registered Democrat in New York since 1991, and Ulster County election officials said she voted in the party primary here in February.

But in October, Little registered to vote in Ohio. On her registration paperwork, she indicated she moved from her home at 142 Guilford Schoolhouse Road in New Paltz to a place at 1979 N. 4th St. in Columbus, near Ohio State University.

That Ohio address also doubles as headquarters for a grassroots get-out-the-vote group called Vote Today Ohio. The organization’s pro-Obama Web site says it targets “young people from campus/urban centers” and drives them to early voting sights in Ohio. The group also offers housing to out-of-town members.

Franklin County Board of Elections officials said four people, including Little, registered from Vote Today Ohio’s address in October, just before the state’s deadline. Little requested an absentee ballot, which election officials said she has submitted.

According to Ohio election laws, voters must reside in the state at least 30 days prior to the election and must intend to stay there after November.

“It can’t be a temporary location that you just moved to for work, such as people who would come to Ohio from out of state to work on a political campaign,” said Ben Piscitelli, spokesman for the county board of elections.

Little insists she’s playing by the rules. “I’ve been living in Ohio,” she said, when reached on her home phone in New Paltz Wednesday morning. “I have no intention of voting in New York,” she said, before cutting off the conversation, saying she had a flight to catch to Ohio.

Spokeswoman Pam Kapoor, with Vote Today Ohio, said Little moved into the group’s headquarters a couple months ago, along with several other “core members.”

Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney Ron O’Brien confirmed that Little’s name and address are under scrutiny.

Franklin County Board of Elections Director Michael Stinziano said his office has about 160 allegations pending, including “many” directed at Little and Vote Today Ohio. Election fraud in Ohio is a felony.

Rep. Hall’s campaign isn’t waiting for a verdict. The freshman congressman, who’s running for re-election in the 19th district, heard about Little’s problems Tuesday. “The moment we heard about it, her campaign consulting contract was terminated,” said Campaign Director, Susan Spear.

Hall’s campaign paid Little $11,139 in consulting and travel fees over the last nine months. The payments were sent to her New Paltz address.

The truth must really hurt, because the JN has spiked this story so that it doesn’t hurt their Democrat endorsee, John Hall. Tell us, oh fair and objective journalists, why hasn’t this story appeared in the paper or in this Politics on the Hudson blog? You have lots of time and space to post stuff that has absolutely nothing to do with our area, yet you ignore a scandal in the campaign of one of our sitting congressmen.

And then they wonder why professional journalists are held in lower esteem than used car salesmen. Pathetic!

  8. Jiminy Cricket

Good points by Sara R. and a good and relevant post by The Truth Hurts.

Bias? WHAT bias? Why, the very bias Sara pointed out.

  9. smartporpoise

With apologies to the Treasure of the Sierra Madres: “Logic, we don’t need no stinking logic!”

  10. Debra

What about the John Hall campaign voter-fraud scandal? Another day past, another day the story is ignored. I guess we’ll just have to keep bumping this as long as the poltitical reporters and news editors at the Journal News keep trying to cover for their boy Hall!

  11. Jiminy Cricket

Putting Hall’s fired staff member aside for a moment, the AP is now reporting that Obama’s aunt in Boston is an illegal immigrant. Originally from Kenya, she lives in a Boston housing project, and she has donated $230 to Obama’s campaign. Obama’s uncle Omar is, or was, in the Boston area too, and he may also be illegal.

It was the London Times that first found Obama’s aunt, not the American press, and now the AP has confirmed she’s an illegal immigrant.

Let’s see how the Obama media handles this story. So far, they have excused anything negative about Obama, and that is a long list of excuses—from Wright, to Pfleger, to Ayers and Dohrn, and to Rashid Khalidi and Khalid al-Mansour, whose real name is Don Warden. These individuals could be called “Radical Row.”

  12. the consultant

How is this woman his aunt..is it his father’s sister
it can’t be his mothers’s ..does Obama know she is in
the country…does she know she is illegal? has there
been any contact between her and Obama..when we know
those answers we can get to the next step of
why he didn’t do something to help her either financially
since she lives in a hovel..or to get her online for
    citizenship…

  13. Jiminy Cricket

Consultant…She is on Obama’s father’s side, as is Uncle Omar. Read the AP story from today and the Times of London story from a few days ago. Both can be found easily. The aunt was mentioned in Obama’s book. The campaign confirmed she is in America, but hasn’t said anything else so far.

She knows she is illegal because she got a deportation order about four years ago. She ignored it.

Obama hasn’t helped his half-brother in Kenya, either, who lives on about $25 per month. Like Biden, they are a pair of Limo Liberals. Use everyone else’s money but not their own. Biden averaged donations of about $325 per year to charity over the last nine years, per his own filings.

  14. ed1

Consultant asks why Barack didn’t do something to help her financially. It seems that SHE donated to him! Reminiscent of the multi-millionaire Sarah Jessica Parker, married to the multi-millionaire Matthew Broderick, who a few years ago criticized the “Republicans,” bemoaning the fate of a couple of her relatives who were on welfare and were not, in her opinion, receiving enough from the public’s largesse. At least they were (presumably) legal.

  15. the consultant

hey no question about it…they want to take your money
and give it away but when it comes to their money
they are tight as a crabs ass..

  16. the consultant

Jiminy..here is the Obama response to the aunt issue
Bill Burton, a spokesman for the Obama campaign, issued the following statement in response to the AP’s reporting about Sen. Obama’s aunt: “Senator Obama has no knowledge of her status but obviously believes that any and all appropriate laws be followed. ”

now this may not be an important issue..but do you really
think that Obama doesn’t know his aunt is illegally in
    the country?

  17. Jiminy Cricket

Consultant…I think Obama did know. His excuse about everything and everyone from Rezko to Ayers is “I didn’t know.” He’s worn that line out by now.

The Times of London, in its report a few days ago, quoted the aunt as saying she had been told not to say anything. Quote: “I can’t talk about it. After the Fourth, I can talk to anyone.” Reportedly, she also sent $230 to Obama’s campaign.

I suspect Uncle Omar also may be illegal.

I believe this issue is important for several reasons, one of which goes to Obama’s character and credibility.

  18. the consultant

We already know that his campaign is extremely defensive
about lots of things..but they are not registering with
the voting public who are in panic about the economy

  19. Tim Hays

Look: we know a corrupt know-nothing is going to be elected next Tuesday (and I’m not talking about Sarah Palin, mind you).

Chauncey Gardener from Illinois will win the electoral college. The Democrats will hold the White House the next four years. (Until Mitt Romney is elected president, following four years of a huge mess caused by the Democrats holding the White House.)

Our children should be in law school, looking to be appointed assistant US Attorneys.

There will be plenty of business for them to work hard at the next four years.

  20. Jiminy Cricket

Obama’s aunt was at his Senate swearing-in four years ago, and his camp also says he talked to her two years ago and knew she was in Boston. But he still claims he had no idea about her immigration status. That is not believable.

Nor are his attempts to distance himself from others in the radical realm. For one example, in September Obama told Bill O’Reilly that he went to Wright’s church twice a month. That’s twice a month for 17 years. Do the math. But he still claims he never heard any hate speech from Wright. That is just not believable.

  21. Jiminy Cricket

I think this thread deserves to be bumped. So, bumpity, bump, bump, bump.

  22. ed1

One might wonder what Biden’s pastor (if he has one) does with the quarter the Senator tosses into the basket each Sunday. And, for poetry fans, what one has with bumpity, bump, bump, bump, among other things which will herewith remain nameless, is a trochee followed by three spondees. Vince Lombardi knew this as a result of his very fine Jesuit education, and employed it numerous times against the NY Giants and the Chicago Bears, although he could never get it across to Hornung and Jim Taylor, so gave up trying and simply presented it nonverbally with chalked x’s and o’s on the blackboard.
