Heard of couple who moved with their aging parent. They have the aging parents name on the deed along with their name,so the aging parents qualifies for the enhanced senior star and this results in a hugh lowering of their school tax bill, even though the people who live with aging parent are in their 50's. Sort of a way to scam the system and still receive low taxes plus additional star checks in the mail.

This is a big scandal for both Reps and Dems thorughout the state. So far the main street media is staying away from this. Pass the word around.

Incredible. I just read it, Friend. Almost 3000 households in Yorktown ALONE pay no school taxes, yet claim and receive STAR rebates? All because the State hasn't the "technology" to catch the cheaters? It's little wonder NY is in financial chaos. We are led by birdbrains and dilettantes.

Interesting. I didn't know there were homeowners who owe no school taxes. Is this so? I know a relative who "celebrated" her 90th birthday in February. She lives in a small house worth, in today's market perhaps $450,000 because she cannot afford to keep it up. She pays personally for help to come in. She lives on social security and her deceased husband's small ($600 per month) Navy pension. I handle her tax forms, and she pays over $9000 in school taxes alone. She has been paying school taxes since 1946 despite having no one in her immediate family ever having used the school system. And that does not include Federal, State, County, sales and local taxes. Personally, I don't think these elderly people should be expected to pay school taxes at all.

Should look at STAR program where a minimum of 70 Million dollars is given out to homeowners who owe no school taxes.
