The $2M Dollar Man

NYPIRG’s Bill Mahoney has put together a list of the top spenders for state Senate races during this two-year election cycle.

Republican Serphin Maltese, R-Queen, has spent the most on the general election, when you discount Democratic Sens. Darrel Aubertine and Craig Johnson, who had to compete in separate special elections.

Maltese has spent $2 million. He’s facing a tough re-election battle against Joseph Addabbo, who has spend $535,189.

After Aubertine and Johnson, Democratic candidate Richard Dollinger spent the most so far at $1.5 million, records show. The numbers include money from third-parties.

  1. don't let the door hit you

  2. the consultant

and what are you going to do when the whole state is
run by one party..the party that gave us Spitzer and
    Hevasi..?

  3. Who Cares

MOVE – Will you be joining me.

  4. voter

Maltese spent oodles to say nothing. He’s a loser.

  5. the consultant

frankly I think both Maltese and Ceasar Trunzo may be
at risk if Obama’s coatails are long enough..remember
the Johnson Goldwater landslide which swept virtually
every republican out of office in close races

  6. kitz

The amount of money going into these state races is astounding. $2m? Think of what could be accomplished if that money were put into the budget.

  7. anon

Nozzolio and Seward each spent over $600K?!?

Even if they win, Capanna and Barber have totally trounced them. For far less money, they’ve forced these two losers to focus on their own races rather than helping their Republican buddies, and if the races are close, they may well decide to retire.

Oh, by the way? If we wipe out the Republicans, then the Working Families Party, or possibly the Conservatives, or even the Right-to-Lifers, will become a serious “second party”. There is no real chance of “one-party rule”. Look up Duverger’s Law in Wikipedia.
