No Criminal Charges For Spitzer

Posted by: Joseph Spector - Posted in Uncategorized on Nov 06, 2008

Federal prosecutors announced this afternoon that they will not seek criminal charges against former Gov. Eliot Spitzer for his solicitation of a prostitute that led to his resignation in March.

U.S. Attorney Michael Garcia said in a statement that Spitzer admitted that he was a client of the Emperor’s Club VIP prostitution business.

You can read the full statement here.

The agency’s investigation found that that on multiple occasions, “Spitzer arranged for women to travel from one state to another state to engage in prostitution.”

Yet Garcia said there is no evidence that campaign or public funds were used.
“In addition, we have determined that there is insufficient evidence to bring charges against Mr. Spitzer for any offense relating to the withdrawal of funds for, and his payments to, the Emperors Club VIP,” he said.

Spitzer, who took office January 2007, resigned in March in a national scandal after he was linked to the Emperor’s Club and listed in court papers as Client #9.

Spitzer was under investigation and faced a number of charges, including hiring prostitutes to bring over state lines.

But Garcia said that “In light of the policy of the Department of Justice with respect to prostitution offenses and the longstanding practice of this office, as well as Mr. Spitzer’s acceptance of responsibility for his conduct, we have concluded that the public interest would not be further advanced by filing criminal charges in this matter.”

Laws are made to protect the innocent. In this case, people will always look at Spitzer’s kids and think about what their father did. Spitzer’s children will always think that people are thinking about what their father did. Their lives will not be what they could have been. Do not be surprised if they start having trouble in school or don’t finish college.

People will also ask why Silda stayed with him. She deserves what she gets.

For this reason and to protect other innocent children in the future, Spitzer should be imprisoned for very long time to set an example.
