Hillary just nominated to head State Department

December
1

President-elect Barack Obama just nominated U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton of Chappaqua, Westchester County, as secretary of state. Obama said he has known her as a friend, colleague, source of counsel and a tough campaign opponent.

“She is an American of tremendous stature who will have my complete confidence,” he said.

Obama said he has no doubt that Clinton is the right person to lead the State Department and work with him. She will work to renew old alliances and forge new ones, he said.

American values are the country’s greatest export, Obama said.

In nominating his national security team—including Janet Napolitano as director of homeland security—Obama said the national security challenges the country faces are just as great and urgent as the economic ones. Now, more than ever, the United States has a stake in what happens across the globe. He referenced the terrorist attacks in Mumbai last week, in which six Americans were among the 200 people who lost their lives.

The question for New York now becomes, who will Gov. David Paterson choose to replace Clinton. Whoever he chooses will have the seat until 2010, when there will be a special election for the seat.

according to general petreus she is the most knowlegeable

    good enough for me

    patently ridiculous.

I am not certain that General Petraeus ever said exactly that and in what context any praise for Hillary Clinton was made. Hillary Clinton supported the Iraq War but had the audacity to deny doing so and then opposed the surge. Her qualifications for being Secretary of State are very limited. A little over one term in the Senate where she wasn’t even on the Foreign Relations Committee unlike Obama’s running mate who was supposedly picked for his foreign policy expertise and now runs the risk of having a disfunctional team where the Secretary of State and VP clash on foreign policy. It didn’t work well the last eight years and won’t work well again. Obama is playing politics with the nomination and is using this as an attempt to bring in a potential rival. Not a smart move in a time where we as country are fighting two major wars.

If the Consultant is so impressed with Obama’s nominations and policies, may I suggest that he apply for a job in the administration.

joe scarborough related the story today on his show
he is a reliable source journalist and former republican
congressman..your analysis is wishful thinking…you would
like this new president to fail..everyone else meanwhile
is rooting for him…so far his appointments have
been smart, and centrist…jim jones as national security
chief is great and gates stays at defense…he is doing
fine so far..and that is the opinion of conservative commmentators

  5. smartporpoise

    context, context.

  6. the consultant

I want to give this new president a fair chance..Bush
screwed up everything he touched…and I was a huge
supporter…now I am willing to let a “liberal” try to
fix what the so called conservative screwed up..sue me!
oops sam is already doing that!!!

George W. Bush is already getting fair shakes from Presidential Historians.

Bush Banned Partial Birth Abortion, signing it into law and delivering “Friend of the Court Papers” when it was brought in front of the US Supreme Court. (PBA was an American Holocaust, 9 month old bavies slaughtered)

Bush did the same on the Washington DC Unlawful law on the Second Amendment ruling. (Friend of the Court papers)

Bush Liberated 50 million in Iraq from the Holocaust of a Dictator.

Bush has kept us safe for the last 8 years since the attacks of 9-11.

So on and so on. Bush Legacy has already being defined as better then the Liberals would ever want you to believe.

  8. the consultant

Bush will go down as the Herbert Hoover of the 21st century
he could be among the worst we have ever had ..the deficit
is out of control..he changed traditional republican foreign
policy norms…he created the opportunity for Iran to develop its nuclear aresenal by removing sadam who was
a check in the region…and he paid no attention to
economic matters and blindly followed the deregulators
the supply siders and the neocons..he was in short
    a disaster

Was the Consultant absent the day they taught logic in law school? Having Joe Scarborough, a MSNBC-style Republican, say a positive word about the President-elect or his appointments does not mean they are great appointments or they will do a good job.

The economy’s collapse is not solely the Bush administration’s fault and there are many others to blame who the Consultant consistently praises such as Robert Rubin and the Democratic Congress.

Iran would have continued to develop nuclear weapons regardless of us invading Iraq and would have had a better excuse for doing so with Hussein still in power and NO ONE BELIEVES THAT Hussein would not have attempted to develop nuclear weapons at some point. Most likely after sanctions were removed which was becoming increasingly likely with Russian, French, and Chinese influence.

  10. the consultant

anon you are a neocon through and through ..you are
entitled to your opinion ..but you are now marginalized
sorry but the world is passing you by..and so young!

  11. smartporpoise

In light of Iran’s recent policies, can anyone seriously doubt that Hussein would be furiously trying presently to build his own nuclear weapons cache?
