Paterson expected to challenge judge-selection process

December
3

Gov. David Paterson and Attorney General Andrew Cuomo are expected to announce later today that they are challenging the way the state picks Court of Appeals judges.

Paterson earlier this week received a list from a screening committee of seven names from which he is supposed to nominate one to succeed Chief Judge Judith Kaye, who is being forced to retire at the end of the year because she is 70.

Paterson said he was “disturbed’’ by the list, which included the names of no women or Hispanics. One of the seven men,  Court of Appeals Judge Theodore Jones, is African-American.

This political pandering by simple politicians dealing with the judiciary brings to mind the works of Ray Bradbury and Margaret Atwood. And Eric Hoffer is howling in his grave.
