Which state is the most corrupt?

December
10

The criminal complaint filed yesterday against the governor of Illinois has sparked a lively discussion regarding which state has the most corrupt government officials.

According to the Corporate Crime Reporter, a legal publication, the answer is Louisiana.

The basis for that ranking? Their analysis of a 2006 report by the Public Integrity Section of the Justice Department which can be found on the Internet at www.usdoj.gov/criminal/pin/docs/arpt-2006.pdf

The rankings, based on federal convictions, put Mississippi at No. 2 followed by Kentucky, Alabama and Ohio.

Illinois ranked No. 6.

New York was No. 10 just behind New Jersey.

At least the top eight corrupt States have good basketball and football programs. New York and New Jersey, unfortunately, are presumably efficient only in corruption. If we are to be beset with tides of corruption, GIVE US A RANKED POWERHOUSE to root for!

  2. ed1

What’s with all these politicians caught in the middle of corruption flagrante delicto that they invite in a photographer and ten ministers (of God?) and start having prayer meetings?

  3. the consultant

elected officials are of two types…the first are people
who know they work for the public and take their jobs
seriously but don’t take their pr seriously….the second
type is well narcissistic..they believe their own press
and they believe that the public for whom they work is
to be manipulated for the purpose of seeing higher office
or of extorting from them as much money in campaign contributions or other things as they can…witness
the governor of illinois…I could point out westchester
politicians past and present of both stripes but
i will leave that to the phil reismans of the world
who have a good understanding of who the HOZZERS
    are….

  4. Hozzers?

Come on Mike! Can’t you name just one?

  5. ed1

It took me a few minutes, but I finally realized that you were using that piggy epithet, ‘chazzer.’ At first, I thought you were just spelling Hosers phonetically, as in ‘hosing the public’ which too would apply.

  6. the consultant

the republicans have greg ball…the democrat party has paul feiner….two examples!!

  7. the consultant

so my yiddish needs improvement…currently i am studying
    italiano!

  8. ed1

    Martini molto asciutto, cameriere!

  9. Jimmy Joyce, Brewster, NY

Indeed, Greg Ball is an embarrassment to the Republican Party and he certainly fits the definition of narcissism at least as defined by the consultant: “they believe their own press and they believe that the public for whom they work is to be manipulated for the purpose of seeing higher office…”

So who in the GOP is willing to stand up and stop this cancer from spreading? Apparently not enough people as Greg Ball appears to be in the embrace of the GOP. Not a good sign.

  10. the consultant

how about la donna mangia….just starting rosetta stone
for our next trip to italy…my favorite place..you
    just can’t get a bad meal..bene grazi!

  11. the consultant

no one can stop a candidate from running..and in the
absence of a clear indication of wrongdoing we are simply
engaging in personality descriptions..but I get the feeling
that before march we will have a pretty good indication
about some of our present and former elected officials
and what they have been involved in..at that point
    public outrage will take over..

  12. machiavellian nightmare

ball is a pathetic low-life and joyce said it best that he is a cancer that must be stopped from spreading. this fella thinks he’s going to be a united states congressman. well i sure hope that the republicans can do better than that. they deserve better than that. not just the republicans but the people of that district deserve better.

  13. ed

la donna mangia? The woman eats? Man, can that woman EAT? Somehow doesn’t sound right, and can get you in trouble. You don’t want to come back on separate planes, do you? Back to the Rosetta Stone.

  14. umm,,,

something I will never understand.. good old consultant…
why the Hate for Greg Ball and if Im not 100% correct I don’t think Greg Ball has made an announcement to run for COngress…so why assume???

  15. Re:

Simple Answer. Greg Ball is good friends with Dr. Guilio Cavalo of the Independence Party, arch-nemesis of the consultant and some of his previous clients. Ball is also very close with Dan Schorr, who is challenging one of them. Mike is probably paid to go after Ball, although he was very fair during the State Assembly race. I thought his primary night coverage was outstanding, despite the less than hoped for outcome.

  16. Fuss?

Why so much chatter about Ball? The guy won… a state assembly seat? What’s the big deal. Most state assemblymen (and women) are barely literate. I think Mr. Ball is a legend in his own mind and the local political chatter fuels this nonsense. When and if the guy runs for Congress perhaps then he’ll be relevant but doubtful as he won’t be able to touch John Hall’s popularity or successes…or money, but that’s another story. Ball is lifelong assemblyman – whoop de doo!

  17. NEW YORK POST

CONGRATULATIONS TO ASSEMBLYMAN GREG BALL FOR BEING INDUCTED INTO THE NY POST’S “ALBANY HALL OF SHAME”

BALL, ALONG WITH BUFFALO ASSEMBLYMAN SAM HOYT WERE INDUCTED BY THE POST FOR “MAKING AN ALREADY SLIMY CHAMBER EVEN SLIMIER”

FULL ARTICLE CAN BE FOUND IN 12/15 EDITION OF NY POST.

CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN, ASSEMBLYMAN. WAY TO MAKE YOUR CONSTITUENTS PROUD!

  18. Hit Parade

Ball has only to write one hit love song to have as much money as Hall. Baby, baby, baby, baby or somesuch.

  19. SamClemens

The assembly ethics committee, unfortunately, cleared Slime Ball, of the allegations of sexual harassment, as the charge amounted to a “she said, he said” with no corroborating witnesses. Oh well. But I will say the order of protection that was taken out against him by that CNN producer back when he was in the Air Force speaks LOADS about his true character. That is what the people should focus on. BTW, we are still waiting for her statement “that it was just a lovers quarrel” that Slime Ball promised she would release. That will be a cold day…...

  20. Illinois Gov

Watching the news on the Illinois Gov …. he reminds me of Ball ! Give Ball a little power and maybe he would be the same way….just a thought.

  21. Hall of Shame

Went to NY Post and looked for Hall of Shame and sure enough, Ball is listed. Wonder if this wonder boy is making any New Years Resolutions??????

  22. No excuses

Yes, the sexual-harassment complaint was he said/she said but the Assembly ethics committee did not “clear” Ball, they simply stated that there was not enough evidence to decide one way or the other. They pressed members of the public to come forward with any corroborating evidence in order to settle the complaint. Ball is presumed innocent until proven guilty with them, but based on his past history of shady and disgusting relationships, it’s probably safe to assume in the court of public opinion that Ball is guilty as sin of these harassment charges.

The sexual harassment complaint, the order of protection and stalking his ex to the Holy Land, the stealing of money from a charity, the list goes on and on and on… These will follow Ball throughout his entire political career and will most likely be the reason he’ll never be a member of congress.

  23. Hall of Shame

We heard about the harassment but from what the word around the community, those present with Ball when he did the ‘he said, she said’ were not questioned. What sort of government do we have if they are not going to really investigate? Were they afraid of Ball or what?

  24. Thanks Bill Banks

Safe to assume? Is that why Greg Ball got 60% of the vote?

  25. Putnam Plus

Its amazing how a few people focus on Greg Ball. And hate him. I think you all have secret fantacies…get over it.

With all your hate and the most expensive State Assembly race, ever, he won with 75% of the vote in the primary. He then went on to win in a horrible Republican year with 60%...

You just dont get it..the more crap you throw at him, the stronger he becomes. People are tired of reading and listening to your cry baby, negative garbage.

  26. Westch

Not clear Ball? Are you kidding?

It is rare that the ethics committee unanimously clears someone. And they did clear Ball unanimously. And even Sheldon Silver, who hates Ball, accepted the recommendaiton in full…

    You people are in denile.

  27. james

westch, what are your credentials to speak with such authority about the ethics committee or, at the very least where are you getting your information from?

p.s. you wrote “denile” but i think you meant, “denial”

  28. winter ball

In over two years, I have yet to read a post on any of these blogs having to do with Ball, pro or con, that had even the slightest hint of intelligence attached.

  29. Jimbo

the alabama government is HIGHLY corrupted.
while in illinois the corruption is exposed
in alabama there is almost no exposure of
how really corrupt the riley administration
or years more like decades of intense corruption.

With president Bush + cheney constantly visiting
alabama, the amount is political patronage is
most likely worse than most states

The alabama government is VERY corrupt and the
county of Jefferson is probably equally as
corrupt. It will be the largest bankruptcy
in the nation unless more political favors
provide funding for the criminal activity

The city of Birmingham has a mayor forced
into court for bond swaps, even more corruption

It’s sickening how corrupt Louisana, Mississippi,
Alabama, and you can include Florida too, some
of the most corrupt states both Louisana and
Alabama are 2 of the most corrupt in the nation

  30. Zyskandar A. Jaimot

When we used to live in TAXACHUSETTS – thought it was there with ‘BILLY BULGER’ and all. When we used to live in ‘ROGUES ISLAND’ – thought it was there with the crappy REPUBLICANT governors being sent to the FED slammer and all. Where we are from originally NEW YORK – with the internecine hideous/corrupt POLS – thought it was there. When we visited NEW JERSEY – with mobster DON CORZEINI it was the ‘garden state’ for guys like TONY SOPRANO. Now in FLORIDA – corrupt POLS/HACKS abound all-over. Their wives don’t dare use their married names for fear that the voters will know how ‘married-to-the-fixers’ they are!!! Cae in point ALEX SINK. SO NO MATTER WHERE YOU LIVE – THE HIDEOUSNESS OF CORRUPTION IS EVERYWHERE!!!

  31. Pay Attention

Everybody who defends Ball or says the Ball-haters say nothing intelligent, need to look at what Ball is really doing. He’s insignificant in Westchester, so that’s why most of you don’t care, but he’s methodically trying to take over everything in Putnam County. He’s working on getting his own candidates on every Town Board in his District. He tried to take over the Republican committee in one town he didn’t even live in. He is narcissism incarnate. Someday soon when his real plans begin to unfold everybody will be in shock and in an uproar since they’ve had their heads in the sand for so long.

  32. I hear

he’s back with his parents again. After all, when you’re $100,000 in debt and you’ve never had a job, what else can you do?

  33. Should be

which town? I just heard that in the Town of Southeast, Greg Ball’s hand-placed Supervisor and Councilman voted to try and give two different contracts to two different Ball contributors. Luckily they don’t have the majority on the Town Board. Keep your eyes on November as they try and take over.

  34. DIRTY POLITICS

DEVELOPING: Illinois Governor at center of Fed corruption probe…

Shake down for campaign cash… Used Senate seat to solicit contributions…

    >>> NOW < <<

Replace ILLINOIS GOVERNOR with NEW YORK LEGISLATOR and SENATE SEAT with TOWN CONTRACTS

It’s the same crime. Just small-time.

Ball is as dirty as they come…
