Kennedy Offers Statement in Syracuse, Takes No Questions
So Caroline Kennedy’s tour of upstate started this morning in Syracuse, meeting with Mayor Matt Driscoll.
She offered a brief statement, but took no questions from reporters.
“I just wanted to say, as some of you may have heard, I’ve told Gov. Paterson that I’d be honored to be considered for the position of United States senator,” she said. “I wanted to come upstate and meet with Mayor Driscoll and others to tell them about my experience and also to learn more about how Washington can help these communities.
“There’s a lot of good people, candidates, that the governor is considering. He’s laid out a process. I’m proud to be in that process.”
The audio recording of the press scrum on the Syracuse Post-Standard’s website continues with reporters firing off a series of questions about her qualifications for the Senate, but she declined to answer them.
Asked where she’s going next, she said, “To the car.”
We reported earlier today, though, that she’s headed to Rochester, then Buffalo.
At one point, she’s heard saying, “Hopefully, I can come back and answer all those questions.”

Ask me no questions, I’ll tell you no lies. “What beautiful little cities you have up here. I had no idea that New York State went up so high, and so far out to the left.”
Why won’t she take questions? What kind of candidate won’t answer questions? Is she afraid she’s going to get Palinized? Is she afraid that her lack of knowledge about that big empty space north of New York City is going to show?
You can’t run for public office if you are unwilling to tell the people what they want to know.
