Who are they to say what somebody's "fair share" is? Our current system is progressive enough. The more you make, the more you pay (plus a little more in our current system). How is that not a fair enough share? UGHHH

This is another example of unions using their clout to help themselves. This union avoided cuts before that has been recommended a long time ago. The 1199 union uses their power to protect their jobs which you have to pay from your tax dollars. They have all this money that they use for these commercials and lobbying of politicians to get their way instead of making sensible cuts. This is just like the UAW using their power to get their way and make everyone else pay. Unions were necessary a long time ago to protect workers from abuse but it is now the unions that are doing the abusing.

the budget proposal by the governor is totally unrelated
to the flat tax..which by the way is never going to happen
know why..its not progressive....fair but not progressive
thats a little bit of socialism in our tax code
but the governor has to stop doing business with the unions
and their pension system...why do unions get more than everyone else..because they contribute to poltical campaigns
look at yonkers the YFT has the city by the short hairs because of what ...they have telephone banks at election time give me a break...police and fire..they up their overtime in the last three years so they can retire
as millionaires...on your tax dollars..hey you know what
I don't have a dog in the hunt anymore..I am being
objective..I do not pay ny property taxes....but I
do understand where the money is going...its going
to subsidize the special interests that contribute
to both republicans and democrats alike in the state
legislature...no one seems to understand the word NO
Paul Feiner in greenburgh justifies a 20 million dollar
library....don't tell me you can't build one for 5..
and he has raised taxes 30% over the last two years
and he has the unmittigated nerve to suggest that
the county is ripping you off....the county accounts
for 20% of your tax bill.....the rest is town and
schools....43 different school districts all with
a superintendent ..all with a board of ed....
you want to pay for it...be my guest...it cost
me nothing..but I know stealing when i see it

Peter,

Your take on the economy is like a shotgun blast of (truth?) to the face.

I, for one, look forward to your future posts as I am certain they will bring "enlightenment" and joy to all who deign to read them.

peter in hartsdale...studies have shown that the flat
tax is revenue neutral...it would probably wind up
at about 22%...most deductions would be lost with the
exception of mortgage interest on your primary home
it would allow a filer to use a postcard to file
and would eliminate the very elaborate and complicated
tax code we now have which has rules that let higher
income earners get certain deductions that you can't

I don't like the flat tax because the less people make less money the less tax will come in so government will have to cut money spent on good programs.

This is why we need a "Flat Tax." I believe we should all pay our way, I also believe we should have a voice (vote) on how our money is getting spent. If we have a set tax on all income earned-then we have a fair tax system.

I am angry at all those people who want the "Rich" to pay for them. While I don't hit the $250,000 mark-I think we, as citizens can better tell our legislators about what we want and what we don't want. And-we ought to get a flat tax tax (I'll say that taxed income should be based on the dependents. I.e. a family of 12 making $12,000 a year should be taxed less than a family of 2 making $12,000 a year)-you know, adjust for the number of dependents.

If you make an income-you should pay some tax.

If you live off the government-you should not get a tax rebate-you haven't paid taxes!

I am flabbergasted by the people in the news (I watched-but did not take notes) who think that they should get a check and that those making over $250,000 should pay!

As far as the newly elected are concerned-I think they are Socialists-all of them.

Stop with the taxing. You can't tax your way out of a recession, especially a near depression. Check Herbert Hoover's record.

with sugar which attempts to control what we eat..
