Trouble For Former “Gang Of Four” Member

Posted by: Joseph Spector - Posted in Uncategorized on Dec 19, 2008

New York City Councilman and Senator-elect Hiram Monserrate has been arrested for allegedly attacking and cutting his girlfriend with a broken bottle, several news outlets are reporting this morning.

Monserrate, an ex-cop, was one of the initial “Gang of Four” that was holding out supporting Senate Minority Leader Malcolm Smith, D-Queens, for majority leader in exchange for a powerful post in the Senate.

He later cut a deal with Smith and dropped out of the group.

But now Monserrate faces his own personal problems.

Paul J. Browne, the Police Department’s top spokesman, told the New York Times that Monserrate had been arrested and charged with assault in the first degree.

The New York Post
said that in 2006, Monserrate secured $100,000 to fund a program to to give women the resources they need to protect themselves from domestic violence.

Yesterday, another state Legislature, Queens Assemblyman Anthony Seminerio before pleading to corruption charges cursed at a newspaper photographer and knocked his camera out of the way.

The reason we have so many dregs in our senate and assembly is because everyone knows they are dregs, and the dregs either stay, and deliver portions of their theft to those who back them, or new dregs are elected under the premise that: “They’re all thieves up there, so elect your own thief! Don’t worry, I’ll rob and steal everything I can for myself, but I won’t forget to steal some for YOU!” And the band plays on.
