Ball announces new PAC

December
31

State Assemblyman Greg Ball today announced the formation of a new political action committee, one “committed to getting serious conservative candidates elected throughout the Hudson Valley.”

Here’s his announcement:

Prior to being sworn in for his second term, State Assemblyman Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson), announced the formation of a new political action committee known as the Putnam Pioneers.

This ‘by invitation only’ organization is committed to getting serious conservative candidates elected throughout the Hudson Valley.

Today, at his swearing in ceremony at Primavera in Croton Falls, NY in Westchester County the Assemblyman stated, “[b]y supporting Putnam Pioneers, you are helping to lay a strong foundation for maintaining a Republican Majority and getting reform minded candidates elected throughout the county, and beyond,”

The committee has already recruited over 40 committed Republicans, Conservatives, elected officials, successful business owners, labor leaders and even Democrats throughout the Hudson Valley. Each member has made a $2500 financial commitment to help recruit credible candidates who espouse a simple philosophy of cutting taxes, rooting out corruption and cracking down on illegal immigration.

Ball, one of the few remaining elected Republican officials in the Hudson Valley, said the organization “was dedicated to rebuilding the infrastructure of the Republican party by recruiting, raising money, and targeting these resources to support maverick-like candidates willing to support a fiscally conservative and socially populist message to win local, county and state races.”

The founding members of the Pioners, several of whom include rising stars in the state party and local officials who have run efficient races, are working a blueprint for success that will provide financial training, strategic assistance, media consulting, research, staff training and campaign tools to other candidates.

“We are beginning to recruit a tremendous group of Republican candidates for 2009 and 2010,” Ball told a crowd of supporters. “While our party has always had strong grassroots enthusiasm, one thing we have lacked is an organized ‘farm team’ of conservative Republican candidates who are ready to intelligently speak on an anti tax, pro legal immigration and anti cronyism agenda while moving our party forward.”

———
Ball, R-Patterson, who won a second term in November, is holding his swearing-in tonight, which may help explain the time references in the announcement. Putnam Pioneers doesn’t show up yet on the state Board of Elections list of political committees. More to come in the days ahead. . .

so…which charity is THIS pac going to rip off? http://tinyurl.com/3ypkg9

Ball is up to his same old shameless tricks. Another dog and pony show with the end result being money diverted to Greg Ball for Greg Ball. This is another scheme by Ball “Like the Polo money he stole from kids”. Ball is for Ball, those who follow Ball will fall when he falls, Rights, Yee, Scannipieco, Fusco, Capasso, just to name a few. Then there are those who fear Ball and are scared to take a position against him, Birmingham and O’Dell just to name two. People will have to step up and be counted soon, there is no room for those who want to sit on the fence and watch. There is a battle brewing in Putnam and Ball and his flunkies think they can take over our county, if you sit back quietly and do nothing, we will all pay the price. Look at Southeast with Ball’s hand picked Supervisor Michael Rights, what a joke of a Supervisor.

Remember what happened with Hitler, everyone thought it was nothing until Hitler moved on from country to country and then everyone saw the danger we faced.

We have our own Hitler type running around Putnam County and he is using the same fear tactics trying to recruit new members to his a

  3. Wow Jeff

You really hit the nail on the head.

Isn’t it funny that Ball eve has to lie in a press release. “Today at his swearing in ceremony”. It didn’t happen yet. I guess he wanted to get the news out as rumor has it the room will be pretty empty tonight and it has nothing to do with the weather. The crowd will basically consist of the crew Jeff mentioned.

Remember these words as they apply here.

‘All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing’

  4. 40x$2500

equals how much Ball is in debt. Hmmm.

  5. There will be

no Republicans left in office is Ball doesn’t quit dividing the party.

  6. Why bother

looking at the Board of Elections site Mike? They don’t bother to file disclosure reports anymore. Did you see one for the Republican Primary in Southeast?

  7. Did he forget

that he represents two other counties?

  8. Jeff

You mean three counties, Westchester (almost all Democrats), Putnam (mostly republicans) and Dutchess (mostly republicans). It appears Ball has his focus on Putnam County, he believes the same vulnerable people who bought into his “Illegal immigration theme” will follow suit with others who he supports. Ball will learn real soon that his angle is getting tired and people will see right through him.

  9. Jacob

    Good for Greg.

  10. the consultant

the illegal immigration theme is one of the reasons
mccain’s boat sank….there is a huge hispanic legal
voting community out there along with african americans
they will soon constitute a majority of voters..most
thinking republicans including non dogmatic conservatives
believe that for the republicans to continue to demagogue
the immigration issue is a big mistake….it drives
voters away from the party and makes it virtually impossible
for republicans to get any reasonable portion of the
hispanic vote as george w bush did in 2000 and 2004..
republicans need to give minorities good solid fiscal
and tax reasons to vote for republicans not against
    others because of their heritage

  11. Jacob?

Good for Greg how? That he’s spending all his time meddling in local politics rather than “fighting for us” in Albany?

  12. Immigration

    Consultant,

I agree with you in the big picture. In Greg’s district, it’s a little different. Greg’s illegal immigration theme is the only reason he is in office. He’s able to prey on the problems of the Village of Brewster and capitalize that into his support. The reality of course is that he’s done nothing to help, but at least he gets something to shout about. He REALLY needs to just get back to work and stop trying to take over Putnam County.

  13. Jacob

Greg is smart enough to recognize the problem with the NY GOP is that it has become indistingushable from the Democrats. The NY GOP will not start winning elections until they return to a conservative, limited-government philosophy. If Greg’s PAC helps to fund them, it will be good for the GOP, the public and his political future.

  14. CP21252

Consultant once again makes a very good observation. Greg Ball’s over the top ranting on immigration is good for him and bad for the GOP. I live in Carmel and my neighbors, whom I helped to register as Republicans when they moved up here a couple of years ago, just switched to unaffiliated because they can’t stand Greg Ball and his racist inflammatory rhetoric. Ball is literally driving people out of the Republican Party which is perhaps why GOP registrations are down and Dems are up in Putnam. As a Republican committeeman for over 28 yrs. this is the worst I’ve seen it. Going door to door for signatures I had the door slammed in my face by registered Republicans. Many of them citing Greg Ball. He appeals only to the fringe ultra-conservative bigoted wing of the registered Republicans – the dogmatic conservatives – who unfortunately are more motivated to come out and vote (most of the time against something or someone) than those more sensible and thoughtful voters.

    Very discouraging…

  15. "socially populist"

gee, and here i was thinking populist was a dirty word in politics. reserved only for those poor souls who incessantly stick their finger in the air to see which way the political winds are blowing with a complete lack of conviction and principle.

good job on the self-description greg!

  16. Nothing

Greg Ball does will be good for the public. Jacob, I’m sure it will be good for Greg (otherwise he wouldn’t do it), it won’t really be good for the GOP as he’s too divisive, but it might get some short term momentum, but it definitely won’t be good for the public.

  17. Today

in an e-mail to Brewster10509, Greg asked that anybody interested in running for office to contact him directly. Is that his job as our Assemblyman? How is that good for the GOP? Do the town and county committees mean nothing to him?

  18. truth will set you free

when i was growing up in northern westchester in the late 1970’s we always looked to our unfortunate neighbors to the north (putnam county) with pity…when we would play the local high schools in sports the kids would always be nasty, rambunctious and rude….bigoted is another word that comes to mind..i remember common occurrence where one of my teammates who happened to be african-american was called a “n*gger” and “boy”. friends from other schools shared similar stories. and the parents were no better, they could only make it to home games because many times they were too inebriated to travel. such is the culture in putnam county that has lasted throughout the generations where mostly lower income bigots represent the majority of residents. yes, there are always exceptions, especially today with the growing county…but many of those fears and prejudices still exist….and these are the people greg ball relies on for election…simply put, he could not win if he were running anywhere in westchester or even rockland…he relies on exploiting people’s inherent fears and frustrations to win election and he justifies the populations racism in the process.

the truth hurts but it is the truth.

  19. Truth?

Is that why Putnam County has the highest median income in the state because we’re lower-income bigots. I wouldn’t live in Westchester County if you gave me a house. I’m glad you can share your BS experiences from 30 years ago. Give me a break.

  20. Team Corruption is Back!!!

    “Putnam Pioneers”

This sounds eerily familiar to the Putnam Victory Fund.

    (anyone remember that?)

Hypocrite Ball attacked Willis Stephens for taking money from that shady developer and pay to play funded PAC yet Ball himself accepted more money from them in the long run.

The Victory Fund is now defunct, and rightfully so, but people like Greg Ball miss it dearly. They have no avenue to funnel their corrupt and, daresay, illegal campaign cash.

But, alas! They now have “Putnam Pioneers”

This will either develop into the new Victory Fund or will be similar to that PAC that Greg Ball started to “raise money for the environment”, CUEG. Over $50,000.00 was raised under the auspices of promoting smart growth and curbing residential sprawl and then one day all of that money was transferred to Ball’s campaign committee in the blink of an eye. He says “the board supported my candidacy”—what he doesn’t say is that the board consisted of him, his father, his next door neighbor and his grandmother. Sounds ethical to me…. NOT! and that’s before we even bring up The Courage Cup trouble where most of CUEG’s money came from. Ball essentially stole money from a charity event, dumped it into CUEG and then transferred it to his campaign committee. What a great guy!

I would suggest local politico’s, aspiring politicians, and pretty much anyone else to steer clear of this PAC unless they want the Putnam District Attorney or FBI to pay them a visit.

  21. Wake Up!

‘All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing’

Don’t let Ball, Rights, Yee, Fusco, Capasso et all get any more power.

  22. Jeff

Ball is turning the Republican Party into a joke, people have lost respect for the Republican Party because of Ball’s hate and Chairman Scannipieco’s arrogance. When you really want to see what Greg Ball is seeking, just put on your local TV channel and watch the Southeast Town Board meetings, Rights and Yee are Ball’s hand picked candidates and they are doing a horrible job misrepresenting the people and the Town of Southeast. Southeast is a laughing stock because of Greg Ball.

  23. Jack

The Ball believers should pay careful attention as to how the funds are used for this latest fundraiser. Historically, funds seem to go back to Ball only.

  24. It's amazing

that anybody would give money to Ball. He’s been involved in two before… CUEG and the Polo charity and all the money ended up with him.

“Fool me once, Shame on you, Fool me twice, Shame on me.”

    What about the third time?

  25. Putnam Republican

Is there a Republican Organization in Putnam. Or is Ball running it.

  26. Yes and Yes

There is the Putnam County Republican Committee which Ball surely seems to be driving. At last year’s convention, the chairman was basically telling (not a strong enough word) the committee to vote for Ball. Ball ended up losing the endorsement 97-50. Each town also has their own committee and Ball (a resident of God knows where, but not Southeast) tried to take over the Southeast Committee this last primary season. It’s ridiculous.

    Greg… JUST DO YOUR JOB

  27. 7curses

this dirt bag is a nauseating example of the failed republican agenda. a lowlife fear mongering hateful individual with the minute man mental capacity of a frozen piece of garbage floating in the republican sewer of waste

  28. The Sending

And a Happy New Year from Boils, Flies,Locusts, Flood, Pestilence, Conflagration, and Poisonous Snakes

  29. From 10/08/07

“Now a group of upstarts, inspired and led by Ball, is seizing town office from a shocked Republican establishment, giving the region’s newest state legislator local partners to clean up the village of Brewster. Along the way, these conservatives may provide a model for activists to take the reins of their local parties and solve the immigration crisis in their own backyards. The national party should pay attention, for after taking back their own towns and state government, these rebels have their eyes on Washington.”

What have they actually accomplished? Washington should pay attention! ROFL

  30. I guess now

you’l have to kiss Mattie’s ring.

“To get involved in local politics you have two options,” Neuringer explained. “You either kiss the ring of the party bosses and wait 30 years for when they tap you to run, or you challenge them”

I wonder how Scanapieco and Colety feel about that.

  31. Republican Voter

The Republican party in Putnam & Westchester counties are weak. So it is ripe for new leadership. Will it be this group or a different group.

  32. Maybe true

but it depends on whether you want to sell your soul to the devil or not.

They’re in bed with Scanapieco and Colety anyway, so it’s not really change.

  33. Republican Voter

Is this what we want for our local towns?

  34. insider

In Putnam Tony Scanapieco already said he is not going to run for reelection as the Republican County Chair. Who will step up to run the party. There are 3 republican groups currently in Putnam. The Ball faction. The Liebell faction and the faction who has not taken a side.

  35. Ball's way

or the highway. If you don’t run Ball’s candidate, he’ll just threaten to outspend and smear you.

  36. Outside looking in

Putnam County needs a republican chair who can get along with both the Ball and Liebell. This individual must have the savy to deal with the increasing democrat enrollement. He or she must also have personal money who does not have to worry about pandering to any one group. Just the good of the party and Putnam County.

  37. That sounds

reasonable, but unfortunately there is no “getting along” with Ball. It is absolutely 100% his way or there is no dealing with him. There are plenty of people that truly care about the party, the county and their towns, but Ball will have no part of them unless they bow to his agenda.

  38. Was this

    the “Big Announcement” last night?

  39. Interested

How many people were at the event last night?

  40. my albanian friend

who owns the joint told me balls rang in the new year with just shy of 50 people. the spin was that the weather kept people at home and he’s still playing fast & loose with the bill.

hey greggie, how’s it feel to be in so much debt? suxs to be u!! ha ha ha!!

    now pay your bill!!

  41. Maybe

Ball can get Rights and Yee to give Primavera a contract with the Town of Southeast. Rumor has it that was his plan to get his videographer paid. Look at his financials. Nobody get’s paid. He’s in debt $100,000 and now he claims that he has 40 fools who were willing to give him coincidentally that much.

  42. Questions Answered

Q: “I wonder how Scanapieco and Colety feel about that.”

A: They could care less. They both sold out to Ball. Scannapieco’s price was to be left alone at the Board of Elections for the next two years so that his pension can max out. Colety just wants Ball and Rights to keep giving him a taste of their mailing and printing business.

“It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession. I have learned that it bears a striking resemblance to the first.”—President Ronald Reagan

  43. That's disgusting.

Are we stuck with Scannapieco or can a vote be forced to get rid of him? He’d be gone already if he didn’t bring 50 proxies to the meeting and every relative he has is on the committee.

  44. Westchester Doc

Look, in politics, the proof is in the pudding..

On this lohud blog there are maybe 12 Ball haters who constantly bash him…

That said, here are the facts:

He is good looking. An Academy grad. And smart as shit.

He is great on the stump and a superb debater.

The kid is everywhere, even outside his district and is beloved in Westchester.

He has raised over $750,000 since his first run. More than any other Member of the Assembly, except Sheldon Silver!

He took on a 12 year incumbent, and the family held the seat for over 70 years, and he beat him with 70% of the vote!

Then he beat back a smear campaign, a $600,000 assault, a sitting State Senator and the entire local political establishment – and won with 75% of the vote.

I see here people say he is in debt..well most fast paced politicians always have debt after the campaign..but they are willing to risk it. Ball is no different. He will probably have that debt erased, looking at his track record, by March.

The more you hit this kid, the stronger he becomes.

Consultant? You are badly out of touch. Look at his numbers.. you apparently don’t even know Ball or the district.

  45. Westchester Doc

Ball raised and spent, according to the BOE, over $500k in the last campaign alone…holy sht. Didn’t realize that. That means I have to correct my statement. He even beat Sheldon Silver!!

  46. Leibells Last Days

Looks like Ball’s team is growing…and all you bloggers can do is type, type, type… if we don’t act fast Leibell and all Liberal Republicans and good democrats locally will be gone..

  47. Doc

Of course everything you say is true. Winning doesn’t make it right though. He does nothing for us in Albany and just look at the incompetence he has personally placed in the Town of Southeast. Two DWI’s, multiple ethics violations and they just lie and cheat there way out of it. Unfortunately he spouts his buzz words and the average voter keeps voting for him. He’ll probably keep winning, but it won’t stop those that care from continuing to point out the truth about him.

  48. Westchester Doc

Look, Ball supported Rights to clean up Southeast – not to drink and drive. You are wrong to associate the two. And Rights, with all of his issues, was the only Supervisor in Westch or Putn to introduce a 10% tax cut…and Yee is a really nice man, who I have actually met.

  49. Doc is full

of BS. In 2008, Ball raised about $165,000 and currently owes about $90,000. What are you talking about?

  50. Balls famous

I just opened my lap top, and yes, I am a Ball supporter. So I go to lohud, and I read these 50 comments about Ball! I click back and look at all the other postings..about Governor’s, Senators, etc… maybe 1 or 2 comments..lowly John Hall has no comments… Ball is a genius. He has made himself a brand, a hosuehold name..and all you naysayers don’t realize how well you play into his hands…do any of you realize that?

  51. Doc is full

of more. I’ll stop wasting my time, because I can see you’re one of them now. You know Right’s budget was BS. He cut things out of the budget that he knew would get added back, but he would get to say that he lived up to his promise. Nothing he does is for the good of the town, it’s all about image… just like Ball. I’ve met Dwight too and if he didn’t sell his soul, you’re right he would have been a good guy.

  52. Clean Up

What in Southeast needs cleaning up? Dykeman’s? Rights’ friends who he stopped prosecution of? Who he said would tear down the buildings months ago? What has he done? I don’t want to hear about 3-2 votes, because he doesn’t even propose any good ideas. They’re all jokes.

  53. fact check campaign 2008

Ball raised 492,255.64 from 1981 contributors in 2008/2007 alone!! Plus whatever he has raised since the last filing (he held one event I know of, which in year’s past has pulled in about $30k).

  54. Famous

Unfortunately I do realize it. I don’t know how to handle it though. He is doing us all wrong. Someday you’ll all see it, but unfortunately he will have raped and pillaged Putnam County by then.

  55. Brewster Vet

Ball is the man! Clean up Brewster!

  56. Fools keep

giving him money. CUEG? Polo Charity? One born every minute… right?

  57. Brewster Vet

The only guy hurting Putnam is Leibell. All the contracts, sub contracts, legal services are all run through his law firm and for his personal benefit. Even the house he lives in was part of a dirty deal. Ball may be smart and good looking and a great politician..but Leibell is the biggest crook of all!

  58. Vet

    Has he done anything yet?

  59. Engineer

Insight engineering? Transnational builders? Hundreds of thousnads of dollars in donations to Leibell over the years…and guess who gets all the contracts where Leibell is in control?

  60. Vet

I thought you guys were over Leibell. I hear it’s Congress in ‘10. Why bother with the little stuff? Or are you preparing for Mattie or Rights?

  61. Slander

Keep the slander coming… Ball keeps growing larger than life.

  62. Somers Cop

You people should appreciate Ball’s work ethic, his skill and ability to connect with the people..then you would be able to match him. You have to first respect your enemey…problem is, you guys, a few bloggers sitting in underwear, are jealous, and full of hate.

  63. Exceed International

    Need I say more?

  65. Pawling Napkin Folder

You guys think it’s all about winning and losing.

    It’s about right and wrong.

I’d rather be right and lose than be Greg Ball.

  66. Southeast Drunk Driver

Bill? Mattie? Did you just wake up from your hangover last night?

  67. Ex NYPD

    I WANT TO KNOW NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  68. The Senator Who Couldn't Shoot Straight

Wonder lake. Kent Town Center. 50 Main.

All financed with taxpayer dollars..all for the benefit of Leibell and his family.

Case studies in corruption and laundering money..

Leibell wanted to take out Ball and lost. He wanted to take out Scannapieco and lost. He lost against Rights and Yee. And now he is after the Sheriff..Don Smith…round 4, here it goes..

  69. Don Smith fan

Leibell is supporting DeSetfano and everyone knows it. They held a “secret” meeting at the old Town hall.. Leibell’s office that is supposed to be a non profit, but where he holds illegal political meetings..they ran Degnan’s campaign from there..now the race against Don Smith

  70. Kissing Cousins

50 Main is a great thing for the village. Ball still upset that he was asked to leave the grand opening? What has he done? Oh that’s right he setup a website that doesn’t work. Thanks Greg.

  71. Don Smith needs to go

Smith is a good man, but he has to go!

  72. illegal political?

Do you mean like having taxpayers pay for a legislative director to campaign for you full-time?

  73. Smith?

What are you saying? Ball is going to back Smith? What happened to Yee? Afraid of his closet I hear?

  74. right and wrong

    It’s very simple

Ball stands for the people, against taxes, against illegal aliens and against the behind the scenes corruption.

The old guard stands for self preservation.

The old guard is dying..and Greg Ball is ushering new people, new energy and new blood…its better than the Democrats doing it..

    Go Greg Ball!

  75. Smith vs. Destefano

Don Smith is going to understand very soon that Destefano has the complete backing of Leibell and Smith will step down. Stick a fork in Smith!

  76. misinformed

Smith will step out of the race by March.

  77. simple?

I agree with all of those things. I agree with everything in his press release. I would proudly stand next to him if he really cared about those things. I don’t see any of those things in his actions though.

  78. grand opening

Ball, upset about being asked to leave? This shows your ignorance. He taped the whole thing and made you all look like fools. He taped Leibell, Borkowski, Levy .. everyone. And pointed out that FOR ONE DAY they cleaned up the Village of Brewster. After spending years saying they couldn’t crack down on illegal aliens. He played it again and again on local access.. the people loved it. And the journal news story referenced the whole thing..

  79. lil mayo

Good night. I still see the opposition is nasty, mean spirited and politically out of touch. It will be another great year in 2009! Good night. My job is done. Thanks for the intel.

  80. Behind the scenes

corruption? Like voting to award two contracts to Ball contributors in one evening? One worth hundreds of thousands of dollars a year with no bid? They’re worse than anything the old guard could even dream up. You shout “over there” just to distract people to look your way.

  81. an insider

How come Tony Scannapieco does not. Bring in the different factions in the Republican party. If he can’t do it he should step aside and let new blood take over.

  82. Another untruth

Ball packed up long before it even started.

Regarding cleaing up the village… how’s Greg doing in that department?

How’s Dykeman’s looking by the way?

  83. Nobody Can

Ball’s way or the highway. There is no reasoning with him.

  84. Carmel voter

    Tony clean up this mess.

  85. A voter

    He can’t. He must go.

  86. KJA

Leibell has done wonderful things for Putnam County and the other counties he represents. Leibell has been the best producing for our county for many years; I anticipate continued good work from Senator Leibell. Assemblyman Ball is full of himself and appears to be self serving. Those of you who are counting Leibell out are sadly mistaken, everywhere I go in Putnam County, I hear people saying very nice things about him and the work he has done. I cannot imagine Leibell getting involved with the sheriff’s race, there are going to be many good republicans trying to unseat Don Smith and Leibell is smart enough to realize that it is not in the best interest of the Republican Party for him to back anyone in a republican primary. As far as Leibell meeting with any of the candidates seeking to be sheriff, I can assume at some point they will all want to talk with him and he will have a conversation with all republican candidates. Meeting and having discussions with candidates for office does not equate to an endorsement. Ball’s political operatives have begun to try and shape the upcoming races by starting rumors and twisting facts – what else is new.

    Happy New Year!

  87. western voter in Putnam

Don smith is at every event. He is very public. He will be hard to beat.

  88. JOHN 8:32

I HEAR BALL WANTS TO STAND UNDERNEATH THE MARBLE PILLARS OF THE CAPITOL BUILDING

BUT HE MIGHT BE STANDING UNDERNEATH THE GRANITE OF THE BRIEANT BUILDING FIRST

  89. Dreamin

Maybe he will be there with Vinny Lie-bell.

  90. The Strategy

“Neuringer, then a senior in high school, reached out to him with a poll he had completed as a project for class. “The poll showed that Willis Stephens had a 26-percent name recognition, which is horrible for an incumbent,” Neuringer recounted gleefully.”

Good news or bad, they will never let Ball’s name recognition drop. It’s actually brilliant. The average voter knows nothing about what’s going on, but the name might ring a bell as they blindly pull the lever.

  91. Smith

Leibells job is too endorse Don Smith! What Leibell likes to do is have it both ways. Right now Leibell is quietly working behind the scenes against Smith, just like he did with Wright and Ball. Leibell calls Smith “the general” and says in private, that we need a cop as sheriff. Leibell has it out for Smith, and has never liked Smith.

  92. law enforcement first

actually the head of the FBI was not a cop he was a judge
a sheriff has to be more than a cop…he has to be a
law enforcement professional…a former judge would
be nice…and I am hearing that Jim Borkowski is interested
in the job…since he has no involvement with either of
the warring factions…ie liebell and ball…he would
appear to be the smart choice for putnam county…
also since he has run and won as town justice for
southeast he would be a real plus on the ticket..

  93. axeman

jim’s race was for da. he didn’t have the cajones for that so now he’s running for sheriff and he’s trying to re-define the role of the sheriff to fit his background. it’s a flawed strategy that mike edelman is cooking up on the side.jim should have never resigned as judge. he could have run for supreme court and won. he’s a respectable, well liked guy but he’ll never be elected sheriff. and to answer that ridiculous charge that borkowski is not in either camp, ask greg ball what he thinks about the sheriff’s race. he’ll most likely tell you that he and mike rights will be doing everything in their power to stop borkowski from winning.

  94. Power

“ask greg ball what he thinks about the sheriff’s race. he’ll most likely tell you that he and mike rights will be doing everything in their power to stop borkowski from winning”

That’s only because Jim spanked Rights for stopping the prosecution of the Town’s biggest code violator and Ball campaign contributor.

  95. law enforcement first

the sheriff is more than a cop…at least it can be…
not to say that a cop can’t be sheriff..but why pick
the person with the minimal qualifications when you
can get a former judge who is basically non political
which it would seem to me is how you would want your
sheriff to behave…Jim Borkowski is certainly more
than qualified to be sheriff…he is a practicing lawyer
who as I understand it was accepted at the FBI school
when he finished law school…but why does it always come
down to which politician takes whose side…shouldn’t all
republicans choose to have a sheriff who is competent..
if republicans keep arguing…the democrats might
creep up and beat them…and what does mike edelman
have to do with whether borkowski would make a good
sheriff..edelman is not on the putnam exec committee
and has no say in choosing a candidate. that is up
to the putnam county republicans….but come to think
of it…a primary might be a good thing especially
    against the present sheriff…

  96. Re:

Here is your lineup of candidates:

    1. Destefano, NYPD Police Capt.(ret.)
    2. Southeast Councilman Yee, NYPD Police Lt.(ref.)
    3. Sheriff Smith, Brigadier General(ret.)
    4. Moccio, Part-time Lewisboro Police officer
    5. Judge Borkowski, Town Justice
    6. Intrarry, Putnam Legislator (ret.)

Only two have the requisite experience necessary other then Smith, those are Destefano(Leibell) and Yee(Ball). The other four can just drop out now, because the next Sheriff will be ex-NYPD either way.

  97. Primaries

“but come to think of it…a primary might be a good thing especially against the present sheriff…”

A primary is a given in this race.

  98. The GOP

Last time I checked Ball beat Degnan. Get over it.

  99. THE MORE

THE MORE people write things about Ball, whether good or mostly bad, Ball loves it. He does not care what you write, as long as his name is out there.
Give up blogging here about Ball and Balls will be upset. Ball loves to be in the limelight.
    Forget about him.

  100. KJA

You can make all the allegations you want about Senator Leibell and how you claim he does business. But, at the end of the day, the Senator gets it done for the people he represents. Calling Don Smith “The General” is not a bad thing, Don Smith tells everyone he was a General and he is proud of it and he should be. There are going to be many candidates for Sheriff running next year, some ex-cops, some part time cops, an ex-cop who is now a councilman, an ex-judge and everyone knows the cop who retired from the Carmel PD who now works for Don Smith is trying to figure out how he can become Sheriff. The more people that throw there names into the hat the better off for Don Smith, he has name recognition and he is well liked by the voting public. People do not care about internal politics or in fighting amongst each other. Look at Greg Ball last year, the in fighting and the internal bickering means nothing to he voting public.

  101. ZIP CODE E.I.E.I.O

Do you people up there do anything besides argue over two-bit, pedestrian politicians and have potluck hotdog dinners at the fire house?

  102. Lets have fun

So EIEIO what do you do for fun, Panhandle the streets of Yonkers and Mt. Vernon

  103. No he

probably lives in a 3,000 square foot house on a 1/10th of an acre two blocks from the slums in a section of town they changed the name of so that nobody associates it with where it really is. Yeah, that’s how I want to live.

  104. E.I.E.I.O.

I DO live in the slums! But not in a 3000 square foot house. I live in a hole in the ground in the middle of the street and when it rains, I have to bail out the hole with old, discarded Starbuck’s cups. My kids have to walk uphill six miles to a rat infested school and then uphill six miles home in the evening because of the convoluted topography. And they DID change the name of my section of town from Pigsty to Sh*thole Corners, an improvement, but not much of one. All in all, it is not much, but I thank God every day because, as my parole officer says, it could be worse.

  105. life is nice upnorth

FIFIO. Life could be worse at least you have a roof over your head.
We live in the USA you can do what you want and be successful. Life up here isn’t so bad. Potluck hotdogs are not so bad.

I came from your life now I enjoy this lifestyle.

  106. Re:

You are all way off base here. 40 people and a mule with $2500 don’t matter, regardless of whether its $2500 or not. He is saying the PAC is about candidates (who happen to start with 2500).

PACs can raise unlimited money in New York, and with paltry fines or nondisclosure, stay silent on from whom, and how it is to be spent. Look at the Anti-Ball PACs this year.

Whoever these 40 people are (Rights, Ball, Yee, etc.) could pump in, say, $100k from Exceed, split it 40 ways, or 1 way, and we’d never know about it.

You all think this is about 1 person ripping off 40, when I think its about 40 people ripping the rest of us off.

  107. E.I.E.I.O.

FIFIO? I am not FIFIO. I am EIEIO, as in “Old McDonald Had a Farm.” And I live in a hole in the ground. I WISH I had a roof over my head!

  108. Leibell should be ashamed

Our Senator was in a meeting today, again, with Borkowski..he has been promised campaign support and they are going to use the Hudson Valley Victory Fund. I am close to Leibell, this was a large meeting with about 8 people, and I am very upset. I am not going to allow this to happen.

  109. General Canvass

Examination of the 2008 General Canvass in Westchester shows Senator Leibell losing 44-56 to BLANK VOTES. In the three town’s in Greg Balls district, the margin is even greater, including a whopping 37-63 in the town of Somers.

Putnam County, Leibell’s “stronghold”, cast >53% of its votes for “Blank”, and only 46% for our great Senator.

After his betrayal of the Republican party, Leibell can’t even win with no opponent. My bet is that he will be retiring rather than spend a term in the minority, when he knows he would be soundly defeated in 2010.

  110. Canvass BS

Nice spin. But not even close to the truth. Nobody pulled a lever for a blank and you know it. What really happened is that half the people who voted in an election didn’t pull the lever for someone who is running unopposed. Don’t you also think that all the Dems out to vote for Obama didn’t want to pull the lever for a Reb regardless? Nice try Mattie. Keep lying… some people listen.

  111. General Canvass

If all of those blank votes were Obama voters, how did Greg Ball outpoll John Degnan in Yorktown by 900 votes? In Somers by 1200?

Some of them where Democrats, but its no spin that 15-20% of Republicans refused to vote for Vinnie Leibell, but went down the ticket to vote for Greg Ball.

Do the math yourself, you can call it a lie all you want, it doesn’t matter to me. I like how you’ve taken to calling anyone who blogs here and questions our Senator “Mattie.”

Bottom line is blank votes beat Vinny Leibell in Somers, Yorktown, and Putnam..and thats never happened before.

  112. Kresapo

It’s not Mattie posting. He’s not nearly that smart.

Greg Ball himself is posting. He’s his own biggest fan.

And he’s been comparing himself to Leibell since Day 1.

    Pathetic.

  113. You're funny

somehow calling a vote that didn’t take place a blank vote as if it was a conscious act. Whatever, keep spinning. If Ball, Rights, Yee and the rest of your pack (PAC?) should realize that you shouldn’t have to tear down others to build yourself up. You should be able to stand on your own accomplishments. Of course we know there aren’t any, that’s why you take the approach you do.

  114. Law enforcement is not a judge

“Law Enforcement First” is redefining the role of sheriff to make up for the fact he has no police experience. Nice try but it will never work. Ask Borkowski why he really resigned in January….because the Commission of Judicial Conduct had investigators crawling all over putnam asking questions about jim’s unethical conduct over the last year, showing up to events he wasn’t allowed to attend as a judge, they spoke w/ scannapieco and maxwell and 4 others. axeman is correct, making excuses for a lack of police experience wont work, FBI director….that’s a silly comparison

  115. Ummm...

where’s the filing that was due yesterday?

  116. JJ

Hey the real problem in Putnam County is the Sherrif’s Department. They are running a racket with DWI enforcement. Any imaginable probable cause and your ass in the slammer, I’ve personally done more than 20 field sobriety tests and passed them all. With the chuckle on the cops face being a norm. I get pulled over one day and went through same shite, but totally different procedure and got me ass locked up for the first time even though i wasn’t drunk and they have no evidence of myself even having any alcohol in my system, it was entrapment cause they saw me leave a bar. WTF. Now its going to be costly legal fees and whatever satifies the system in that county just so they can recieve a cut, I’ve donated to 3 different police departments. Suck it up right?

  117. Still no

    filing?
