Happy New Year from all of us at Politics on the Hudson. Here’s the official greeting from Gov. David Paterson:
“On behalf of Michelle and the Paterson family, I would like to wish all New Yorkers a very happy and a very healthy 2009.
“As we move forward to meet the opportunities and challenges of a new year, let us resolve to learn from years past and commit to the improvement of our neighborhoods, cities and State. Many of you have set goals for the coming year and we in State government have done the same. We will work to become better teachers for our children, better caretakers for our friends in need, and better stewards of our environment.
“Today we celebrate the passing of one year and the beginning of another, symbolizing renewal as well as change. We will certainly remember the unprecedented highs and lows that marked 2008, a year that provided us with no shortage of memories. As we move forward, let us use these memories as a guide on our journey to achieve our collective goals. Happy New Year.”

A torrent of financial crises, and all that’s mentioned: “better teachers,” “caretakers,” and the “environment.” Oh, and “Happy New Year.”
