Ball Tackles Bushmeat

January
5

State Assemblyman Greg Ball, R-Patterson, announced in a press release moments ago that he plans to introduce legislation to combat bushmeat.

Bushmeat, Ball explains, is meat from wildlife species, including threatened and endangered animals such as elephants, gorillas, and turtles.

The practice of importing bushmeat is currently unregulated and has been challenged in court, Ball wrote.

“Having worked to protect animals and a lifelong conservationist at heart, I was appalled to learn about this practice,” Ball wrote. “The trade in bushmeat is unregulated, may contribute to health problems, and threatens rare species. This issue, while maybe not life threatening to most New York families, is an important sub-issue that requires immediate attention.”

  1. Exhausted

Resist the urge. Don’t feed into this bullshit. Please. No comments about Greg Ball. That’s what he wouldn’t want.

Deflate the ego = deflate the Ball.

    Spread the word.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!

  2. Does this help our property tax?

“Having worked to protect animals and a lifelong conservationist at heart, I was appalled to learn about this practice,” Ball wrote.

Granted, this is not a nice practice but maybe this should be handled on the Federal level for the entire US.

Ball needs to work on our outragous school taxes with other legislators ASAP as this is a priority issue for New Yorkers.

  3. NIcknames

    Gonna call Ball: BUSHMEAT BALL

  4. Sorry Exhausted

I just can’t do it. While our Governor is trying to tax every darn thing I do… In the last 5 minutes I’ve probably performed two taxable tasks, this is what Greg Ball is working on. AGGHHHHHHHHHHH… I just can’t take it.

  5. Don't forget

he knows how to milk goats as well.

  6. ed1

“Having worked to protect animals, and a lifelong conservationist at heart…” Who is the lifelong conservationist at heart that he has been working to protect? RFK, Jr.? Time for him to hire a new editorial assistant. Air Force Academy?

  7. Phony

    “a lifelong conservationist at heart”

Translation: “Even though I have one of the worst environmental voting records of any member of the legislature and I have never publicly or privately supported conservation initiatives, I will call myself a conservationist and the press and sheeple will lap it up without question.”

  8. EANY

Environmental Advocates/EANY, New York’ leading conservationist group, gave Greg Ball an 88/B+ rating, fourth highest amongst Assembly Republicans.

Senator Vincent Leibell III received a 71.

  9. oosplad

    That’s nice Greg, good post.

Now I have a better challenge for you since you enjoy posting so much:

Name one concrete legislative accomplishment in your 2 years in office. Just one.

Concrete meaning if someone were to pick up the phone and actively investigate and seek the truth, your story would pass muster.

Think about that before your answer.

  10. BUSH

    Bushmeat?!? Are you freaking serious

This guy has no clue. He’s never had a real job and he thinks that bullshit will get him through life.

It has gotten him this far but that was on dumb luck.

We’ll see what the future has in store for Mr. Ball

P.S. EANY gave Ball an F, not a B+ —nice lie.

  11. Matt N.

I can’t help but thinking how much Ball is laughing right now that he successfully used a press release to highlight a colloquial term for part of the female anatomy. He is so immature and justs loves playing games.

Does he remember endorsing the hunting of exotic game in the last legislative session? He does. I do. Unfortunately too many people do not.

  12. Thomas

And this helps balance the NYS budget how????

Ball should be ashamed that he takes the taxpayer’s hard earned money in his salary and accomplishes nothing in return.

I am still in shock that this dishonorable loser got reelected.

  13. hidemyrealid

I wonder which wealthy person Ball is trying to con money out of now? Someone with deep pockets probably mentioned this terrible thing is happening in Africa and Ball told this person he could introduce legislation in New York and that will stop the problem. Now, give him $2500 and swear allegiance and kiss his ring.

  14. Dysfuntional Leg

And we wonder why nothing gets done in Albany?
It is truly appalling that this cretin gets re-elected.
What a disgrace to the republican party, the taxpayers of New York and the residents of the 99th Assembly District.

  15. EANY Truth

Wow you guys don’t stop with the BS.

Ball received a 79 and Leibell received 83.

New York’s only legislative environmental scorecard, which grades lawmakers on how their votes affect the state’s natural resources, awarded a score of 88 to Assemblyman Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson) yesterday.

“I promised to work to ‘clean up’ in Albany,” Ball said. “But is it equally important that we continue to work to clean up our environment here in the most beautiful state in the nation, to present the gift of a better environment to the next generation of New Yorkers.”

The scorecard was issued by EPL/Environmental Advocates, one of America’s oldest environmental advocacy organizations. The rating he received demonstrates that Ball is among one of the most environmentally friendly Assembly Republicans serving in the chamber.

“During my first term in the Assembly, I have supported eco-friendly measures to protect and expand our wetlands and open spaces, improve our air quality, and encourage alternative fuels,” Ball said. “I am also grateful to EPL for their strong support of Net Metering reform. This important measure which passed the Assembly and was signed into law is now reducing both pollution and the stress on our utility transmission lines, while saving consumers money—which is so crucial during these difficult economic times.”

Locally, Assemblyman Ball had the highest ranking of any Assembly Minority Conference member. State Senator Vincent Leibell III received a score of 76. Scores were calculated by awarding between one to three points for votes supporting bills prioritized by Environmental Advocates of New York.

“When I return to Albany for my second term, I will continue to support and spearhead environmental laws that promote renewable and green energies, expanded conservation principles, farmland preservation and micro climate sustainability, and keeping the RGGI (Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative) on track. I look forward to continuing to work with local preservation and sporting organizations to keep the public involved in environmental conservation,” Ball concluded.

  20. smartporpoise

You can say that again. And again. And again. Why is there a suspicion that there are really only two people who post hundreds of comments under assumed names on any Ball issue – Ball and his nemesis?

  21. Who

Who is Ball’s nemesis these days?

  22. the consultant

you guys need to lay off greg ball one of the only
republicans who won this past year….it appears that
his enemies cannot accept the fact that his popularity
is extremely high in his district…republicans should
be happy they won a race…because they did not win
many in this democratic year..and the future of the party
is in the hands of the farm team..so assemblyman become
senators..a la george pataki..and some of them become
governors a la george pataki…greg has a loyale
following in putnam…and to continue to take shots
after he won by such a large plurality is ….as captain
hook said in peter pan “bad form”

  23. Dysfuntional Leg

the consultant says we should lay off Greg cuz he won.
However has Mr. Ball done one thing he promised?
Nope! Has Mr. Ball cleaned up the Village of Brewster from the illegal alien invasion? Nope!
Mr. Ball is nothing short of a grandstanding bag of wind who loves to hear himself talk.
The truly sad fact behind his getting re-elected is the fact that the 99th Ass District is filled with uneducated voters who still don’t get that Mr. ball can’t do a thing about illegal immigration, the item that got him elected in teh first place.
Until the federal government gets off its collective rump and does something Mr. ball can spew his hatred and venom all he wants and will never get one illegal immigrant returned home.

  24. the consultant

and john mccain proposed a bill that would allow illegals
to get on line to become citizens..because coming
from a border state he knew that many illegal families
have been here for years and it is impossible to return
12 million people to mexico…you are clearly stuck
on the “illegal alien” issue..but many of the people
you think are illegal are in fact legal..

  25. DearJohn

Everyone knows that “real” Pioneers eat Bushmeat. At first, I thought that Bushmeat might be kind of gross. Then I started thinking about how restaurants are suffering with the economic downturn and all, and I realized that exotic meats might be a great draw.

Just imagine heading over to the Elephant Hotel (our Uncle’s favorite) for real elephant! Try the Pachyderm Pot Pie. How about Turtles on the Halfshell ? Or Steamed
Primate (Gorillas in the Mist?) Methinks that Greggy needs to find a real cause, and soon.

  26. Causes

Ball has found a cause. Promoting himself at the expense of others.

  27. Consultant?

But it’s OK for Greg to continue to attack Leibell every chance he gets? It’s OK for him and his cronies to attack various other REPUBLICAN elected officials on a daily basis? Just look at this blog. Every Ball blog now has an attack on Leibell. He doesn’t care about the Republican party, he only cares about paving the way for himself and his friends.

  28. RECAP

Uh, didn’t Leibell spend $150,000 on DEMOCRAT John Degnan?

That money could have helped save the Republican majority. It’s Vinny Leibell who doesn’t give a rats about the party. I don’t consider him a Republican elected official anymore.

This is about right versus wrong. Good versus evil. Degnan, Leibell, and co., are evil people.

You made your bed, now lay in it, and count yourself lucky you’re not expelled from the party from the 75% of the electorate that supported Greg Ball and an end to your cronyism.

  29. You're right

it is about good versus evil. You just have the sides wrong.
