Spano on the prowl in halls of the Legislature

January
7

Former Sen. Nick Spano of Yonkers was prowling the halls of the Capitol Wednesday – the two years of limitations on his lobbying now officially over.

“The deadline has passed,’’ said Spano, a Republican who served for two decades before being narrowly defeated by Democrat Andrea Stewart Cousins in 2006. He was passing out cards for his lobbying business, Empire Strategic Planning. Lawmakers are prohibited their former colleagues for two years after leaving office.

Spano noted with satisfaction that with four members of the new Democratic majority, Westchester has considerable clout in the newly constituted Senate. His brother, Michael, a former Republican, is now a Democratic assemblyman representing Yonkers.

Nick Spano’s defeat by Stewart-Cousins was an important step for the Democrats as they whittled away the historic GOP edge over the last few election cycles.
