Senate watch, day two

Posted by: Cara Matthews - Posted in Uncategorized on Jan 08, 2009

Nearly 22 hours after Malcolm Smith of Queens was sworn in as Senate majority leader, the now-Democrat-controlled Senate has yet to change the welcome page on its Web site. Visitors are greeted by a “message from Senate Majority Leader Dean G. Skelos.” Skelos, a Republican from Nassau County, was elected majority leader after longtime leader Joseph Bruno gave up the job and his Senate seat last year.

Skelos was nominated by Republicans yesterday to continue as majority leader, but he didn’t get as many voice votes as Smith.

A spokesman for Smith’s office said this morning that staffers were meeting on the issue of the welcome page.
