Gillibrand Defends Stance On Gun Rights

January
23

Newly appointed Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand defended her position on gun rights when she talked to reporters tiday, saying she and her family come from a long line of hunters. She said she wants to rid the streets of illegal guns, but that hunters should have rights too.

“I grew up in a hunting family. I grew up here in upstate New York,” she said. “My mom is probably the best shot in my family. My brother hunts, my dad hunts. In upstate New York, we typically shoot the Thanksgiving turkey. So that’s what we do.

“And so I’ve always wanted to protect the hunters’ rights because they are such an important part of our culture.”

Sen Charles Schumer was a Gillibrand booster when he took the podium today, outlining all the reasons he thinks she’s the best person for the job: she’s a woman, she’s from upstate, she’s talented, she’s proven herself in a Republican district.

He also sought to calm concerns about her stance on guns and her endorsement from the NRA.

“Now, there are certain issues where Kirsten and I disagree. Perhaps the starkest contrast is on guns,” he said.

“As author of the Brady bill and the assault weapons ban, I care passionately about this issue. I come from Brooklyn, Kirsten represents a very rural district Upstate with no large cities. I am confident that as Kirsten comes to see the cities of the state and sees the problems of gun violence, her views will evolve to reflect the whole of the state.”

What a bunch of arrogant thugs. “When she comes to see the problems in the cities…” Yes, exactly why we need the right of self-defense. The 400 pound gorilla in the room, that few journalists are willing to point out, is that gun control laws in every city can be scientifically proven to have had no effect whatsoever on violent crime. Why is it that these thugs in the city can’t come to see HER point of view?? That’s right, they have all the culture. The culture of prostitution, gangs, guns, bread and circuses. Wake up Americans! These people are waging a war on individualism, it has nothing to do with violence. Oh, and congratulations Gillibrand. Oh, and Bloomberg, I am out here shooting off my assault rifle to commemorate your stupidity.

I find this annoying. It is obvious that “evolves” means that Senator Gillibrand might not have ever believed in that position (as I said earlier) but was motivated by pure political expediency. Guns aren’t my issue but I hope that she doesn’t switch her position because that would demonstrate that she will say anything to get elected.

It is pretty shameful that Al D’Amato backed her behind the scenes to get back at John Sweeney and now he will probably back her in the Senate. Then again, he also backed Spitzer and seems willing to back anyone to help his lobbying career.

  3. the consultant

great point about D’amato ….he is no longer an elder
statesman for the repubblican party ..he is in business
    plain and simple

  4. ed1

D’Amato is what Henry Kissinger would be had he grown up in Nassau County, got 900 College Boards, and gone to Syracuse. At least Kissinger has managed to continually confuse people with his Berlin babble and his Ivy trappings. Sadly, they end up with the same “for sale” sign on their foreheads.

  5. libhomo

As a gun crime victim, I can never forgive Gillibrand for putting guns in the hands of muggers, rapists, and murderers. I could never vote for her for any public office. Her behavior is absolutely reprehensible.

  6. the consultant

Democratic Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, a strong advocate of gun control, told CNN’s Mary Snow on Friday that Paterson is “making a very bad choice as far as picking someone who in my opinion doesn’t represent New York state.”

McCarthy, whose husband was shot to death, said she boycotted the press conference in Albany, New York, because Paterson was “picking the person who I obviously do not agree with.”

McCarthy said she’s fought for tougher gun safety measures and cited Gillibrand’s strong support for Second Amendment rights. The Second Amendment deals with the right to bear arms.

Gillibrand, however, touts her support of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System Improvement Act, which provides incentives to states to update background checks, according to Gillibrand’s congressional Web site.

McCarthy said she’s talked to other politicians in the state who, like her, say Gillibrand is the wrong choice for the job.

THIS IS GOING TO BE REALLY GOOD!

  7. GOP Girl

    So Consultant,

What do you dislike about Gillibrand and what do you like? Is she too Palin-like for you? I.e. a mother of two young-uns, who happens to enjoy hunting.

    Just wonderin ;o)

  8. the consultant

actually I happen to like her just fine..she is a conservative democrat….we probabaly agree on a lot
of issues…I have no problem with her gun position
hunters should be able to hunt, and target shooters should
be able to shoot…that has nothing to do with uzzi’s on
34th street….my point has only to do with what is going
to happen in the democratic party..ie I am making an
observation about the governor’s poor handling of the
situation and the criticism which are now mounting
daily…frankly she will be good for the republicans
we might even win the seat..in fact if i didnt
have to deal with getting the conservative and ind
    lines..i might make a run myself…
on another subject..what do you make of this anti
county government ralley which was started by
paul feiner and now appears to be in the hands of
sam zherka…in fact zherka is advertising that
he is controlling the speakers for that day..do
you think that a person who by his own legal
papers says he is under a criminal probe
in manhattan county should be the one to lead
the charge for ‘morality” in government up in
    westhester…just wonderin????

  9. nonaubiz

I think that the selection of Congresswoman Gillibrand is an excellent one. Upstate needs to be represented by someone who understands the region and we really don’t need another far left fanatic in the Senate.

This is another moderate selection by Govenor Patterson who has made several good appointments in his short time.

While I agree that the method was less than perfect the result is just fine.

  10. David

Here’s the problem with Gillibrand’s gun position: she says she supports the 2nd amendment and the rights of hunters, etc…But when the House voted on whether to permit the District of Columbia to enact a local (DC) law to prohibit handguns—she voted against it—thereby denying the local DC city council from adopting a law that they believe was necessary to effectively fight crime in DC. Gillibrand voted with the NRA to bigfoot that local DC law. That has nothing to do with the rights of hunters in upstate New York. Gillibrand needs to explain her vote on this—or renounce it.

  11. the consultant

FORGET ABOUT GILLIBRAND FOR A MOMENT..HERE IS SAM
ZHERKA ADMITTING THAT THE ONLY REASON HE SUED THE CONSULTANT WAS BECAUSE THE CONSULTANT WAS CONSULTING
    WITH SOMEONE HE DISLIKS:

Mike Medelman the reason why this low life political hack prosecutor, Matthew Bogdanos in manhattan started the bogus investigation is plain and simple, “CONTENT BASED RETALIATION” which is a Civil Rights Violation and is acitonable for damages.

Mike Edelman, Janet Difiore, Matthew Bogdanos, Phil Amicone and others have participated in Ethnic Profiling.

The Fact that im of Albanian origin, they assumed i have to be a criminal and shot from the hip with out doing any home work, assuming that Sam Zherka must be involved in crime, they started this bogus Grand Jury investigation with no grand Jury in place which is illegal all in retaliation for the Guardians truthful articles.
As the saying goes “the truth hearts”

Now they are all stuck. The investigation will net them nothing more than black eyes and losses in Federal Court and possible losses of their law degrees. At the end of the day the tax payers will pay alof of money for what they have all participated in and Mike Edelman will have to pull out his check book.

Sam Zherka has lived through and witnessed first hand what minorities have gone through in this country for doing nothing more than exercising his First Amendment protected activity of Free Speech.

Janet Difiore in a phone call to Sam Zherka, threatend him because of an article was written about her husband, Dennis Glazer, a partner at the Law Firm Davis Polk and Wardwell. Dennis Glazer was mentioned in more than one article in several publications to have participated in attempted bribery in order to secure the election for his corrupt wife and current D.A Janet Difiore.

In the phone call Janet Difiore says the following

“HOW WOULD YOU LIKE IT IF SOME ONE CAME AFTER YOUR FAMILY”

“I KNOW HOW TO PLAY THE GAME”

“I WANT A COMPLETE RETRACTION AND NOTHING ELSE”

Well guess what, the Westchester Guardian never gave her the retraction.

So when Mike Medelman says why this corrupt friend of Janet Difiore and his who works in the Manhattan D.A’s office started this bogus investigation, its simple, its the Game Janet said she knew how to play in the phone call made to Sam Zherka.

Mike Edelman was the consultant of Janet Difiore and Phil Amicone and thats why he installed himself into this mess.

Mike Edelman reiterated all those content based, ethnically motivated, vitriolic, slanderous and defamatory postings on these blogs. (ALL FIRST AMENDMENT RETALIATION)

I will prove Janet Difiore is corrupt to the people of Westchester in good time.

I promise that the people will hear Janets threats in her own words and voice.

The day of reckoning is coming to a theatre near your.

Janet is scheduled to be deposed on Feb. 11th by attorney Jonathan Lovett. That will be the day when we will test her honesty and perhaps prove that she is lying under
    oath.

The entire deposition will be video and audio taped so that at the end of the case the public will eventually see that Janet Difiore is a corrupt liar.

At the end of the case Sam Zherka will purchase TV commercials and play the Video and Audio tapes to the public to introduce the real Janet Difiore.

    David-

The law in DC that outlawed guns was enacted in the 1976. The murder rate then skyrocketed (of course). Gillibrand was elected to the US House twenty years later.

I don’t know if you are aware of this but it was once discovered that a criminal also broke a local ordinance (by mistake and also because of society of course).

The United States Supreme Court recently found that US citizens are entitled the protections of the 2nd Amendment.

The Consultant: “do you think that a person who by his own legal papers says he is under a criminal probe in manhattan county should be the one to lead the charge for ‘morality” in government up in westhester…just wonderin????”

I think it is equal to Spitzer prosecuting pimps and prostitutes. What say you?

  16. the consultant

I say…that whether or not the anti government rally
is or is not the way to go..taxpayers should not allow
someone who is admittedly under criminal investigation
for “drug dealing’ “prostitution” and money laundering
according to his own set of legal papers..to lead
or sponsor the rally…because although innocent
until proven guilty…the mere fact that someone like
that is leading undermines the credibility of the whole
movement…I am truly surprised that Paul Feiner
would allow his own creation to be hijackded by
Sam Zherka who has announced that he is coordinating
the speakers at the rally? Westchester faces a huge
tax problem now..particularly in light of falling
housing values which make property taxes relative
to the value of a house even higher…the leadership
to correct the problem has to have no baggage of their
own that might distract from the issue…and I am
aware that the members of the New york press corp
like the daily news and post are watching this very
carefully to see who in fact is leading the charge..
they are waiting to see how they are going to
write their headlines…ie “strip club owner” leads
tax charge..etc..they have already written about
sam using that moniker since he has announced that
he is suing everyone from the da in westchester to the
police commissioner to the NYPD…for as he claims
“erroneously” putting his name in a criminal data base
If I were sam I would hire a great criminal defense attorney
like Jerry Tocapina and march right down to Bob Morganthaus
office to confront the allegations directly and to let
them know that I was innocent..instead Zherka and his
present attorney chose to issue a press release prior
to serving their complaint in federal court blaming
Phil AMicone, Janet Di Fiore and me for the investigation
Is there anyone who could possibly believe that the
office of Bob Morganthau would issue a grand jury
subpoena based on anything that a westchester “consultant”
might say..and as you can see from sam’t admission in
the above post…his only rationale for suing me
is that I was the consultant to DiFiore and Amicone
what he left out of course is that DiFiore’s campaing
ended four years ago..the criminal investigation of
which he complains is apparently relatively new..I
stopped consulting for DIfiore on election night 2005
so where is the connection? plus I don’t think sam
understands what consultants do..they write scripts
and devise strategy…they also buy tv time..thats
it…they are not the campaign managers…nor do
they advise their clients after they win…so the
mere fact that sam decided to bring the lawsuit is
really an attempt to harass and intimidate me…
and something that he will regret..since I intend
to follow him around the county letting everyone
know of his situation…and when tony castro tries
to primary janet…once again I will let the voters
know the zherka, blassberg, cavalo, connection to
castro…its just part of my nature not to be bullied
by guys like zherka…I was bullied once by a kid
who was a paper boy when I was 12..he would harass me
regulaly..so one day I had enough and put on a boxing
glove…when he was in the elevator of our apartment
coming up to deliver papers the door opened..I stepped
in and knocked him out…that was the last time he
picked on me..in fact after that he was very friendly
so sam zherka is not about to intimidate me because
of his fantasy that I was responsible for his new york
city legal issues…I had no idea that he was being
invesigated until he himself announced it to the
world in a press release..you can make of that whatever
you wish..however he made it public ..and then made
it a part of the public record by filing it with the court

  17. GOP Girl

I feel for you Consultant. I don’t support Zherka, nor do I support his “paper.” I also applaud you for hitting the bully. When I was young I was bullied. I was little and my family didn’t have the economic income to match the neighboring families. By 11th grade I had enough with one girl in particular. I was 4’11” and 80 lbs at the time. She came up to me with 2 of her friends and started, yet again, to verbally taunt me while shoving me around-I blew up and smacked her so hard that she was stunned. None of the adults believed her when she complained…yes, sometimes revenge is sweet.

  18. the consultant

good for you..bullies have to be taught lessons…whether
physically in your case..or in mine intelectually with
sam zherka..he thinks that because he is fortunate enough
to have made some money in the US he can use it to intimidate harass and bully those with whom has has a
political difference of opinion…he’s dead wrong about
that..and I feel confident that the federal court
will send that messaage to him loud and clear when
    all is said and done

  19. GOP Girl

My parents taught me to stand up for what I believe in and not back down-this advice has served me well. If I’d been a shrinking violet I’d never have made it onto The Hill or working for John O’Sullivan/William F. Buckley, Jr., or where I am currently-once you have confidence in yourself, you are ready to slay dragons.

Good luck in slaying your dragon :o)

  20. the consultant

and I thank you for that..GOP girl…a difference in
opinion on politics should never result in a nasty
vindictive lawsuit..which mr zherka seems not to
understand…or care about….you would think his
attorney would advise him otherwise because there
are strict rules by which attorneys must play
even though clients may want to gouge their opponents
eyes out…you cannot bring a suit to intimidate or
harass…and as an attorney you must have a reasonable
factual belief in the cause of action you are stating
so I expect the outcome of this case to be bad for
mr zherka..but worse for his lawyer
