State Republicans Weigh In

The state GOP called the Senate selection a “circus” and the “results even worse.”
“Governor Paterson’s secretive, closed-door process of selecting our next United States senator is an affront to all New Yorkers and has resulted in his personal pick of an unqualified, political novice to represent New York at a critical time,” state GOP chairman Joseph Mondello.
“The process was a circus much like the Senate replacement by Governor Blagojevich in Illinois. Sadly, the results will likely be equally disappointing, as Kirsten Gillibrand’s inexperience and lack of results in her limited time in government will be quickly evident in a lack of results for New York.”
Then again, there were some Republican leaders on stage when Paterson made his appointment of Kirsten Gillibrand, including former Sen. Alfonso D’Amato and Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks.
“The choice of a very talented member of Congress who has earned her stripes both politically and governmentally from upstate is an excellent choice,” D’Amato said. “I commend the governor. Not everybody should come from downstate. I think it’s important the state have balanced representation, but also most importantly a person of ability and accomplishment.”
Brooks put out a statement after the event, praising Paterson for picking a woman from upstate and saying it’s time to put partisanship aside.
“Now more than ever, it is imperative that leaders on all levels of government come together, cast politics aside, and work hard to solve the unique challenges that currently face our nation,” Brooks said. “I am proud to put my wholehearted support behind Congresswoman Gillibrand, and I look forward to working closely with her and our entire Congressional delegation in the days and weeks to come.”

Al D’Amato? What’s he doing there at a Democratic folderol? Couldn’t be the free shrimp. Must be a deal brewing. “Want me to call someone? $50,000 per call.” To paraphrase the consultant, there is no specific Republican or Democrat way of stuffing one’s pockets. It’s the same motion.
d’amato is in it for d’amato..he is now a lobbyist so
his politics is spelled M O N E Y
D’Amato is in New York and the Dem’s control NY, needless to say D’Amato will befriend those in power – so goes life.
You mean so goes hypocrisy.
Republicans can weigh- in all they want – Jerrold Nadler will still outweigh them, one at a time or all together.
