Senate votes on Geithner tonight

Posted by: Brian Tumulty - Posted in Timothy Geithner, U.S. Senate on Jan 26, 2009

A Senate vote on the nomination of Timothy Geithner to serve as treasury secretary is expected around 6 p.m. tonight.

Geithner, a Mamaroneck resident, currently serves as president of the New York Federal Reserve.

The Senate Finance Committee voted last week to send Geithner’s nomination to the floor, but five Republicans voted against him because of the mistakes he made on his federal income tax returns over several years. Geithner failed to pay self-employment taxes while working for the International Monetary Fund.
