Tedisco Wins GOP Nod For Gillibrand House Seat

January
27

Assembly Minority Leader James Tedisco was tapped today by the county GOP chairmen in the Albany area to be its House candidate in the seat vacated by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, several Republican officials said.

“He’s the nominee,” a source close to Tedisco said.

Tedisco received the majority of the weighted vote from the chairmen, mainly by picking up Saratoga County which has about 1/3 of the total vote.

John Faso picked up Columbia, Greene, Rensselaer, Otsego and Delaware, but after the first round of voting the counties, Tedisco also picked up Dutchess, Otsego and Warren.

That took Dutchess County candidate Richard Wager out of the running and gave him more votes than Sen. Betty Little, who still had Washington and Essex counties, and Faso.

“Naturally you are disappointed, but that’s the way it is,” Faso said.

Tedisco is planning to address the media on the steps of the Capitol later this afternoon.

  1. the consultant

john faso was a disaster as a gubenatorial candidate
he was a creature of the conservative party which has
a veto over republican nomination because of their
ability to cross endors…faso was pro life..when
more than 80% of new yorkers are either pro choice
or don’t care…and isnt it really sad when the former
gubenatorial candidate can’t even get a congresional
nominaton…thats because he was a sacrificial lamb

Tedisco will be a great candidate and this should be an interesting race to watch. Faso’s a good guy and I hope he runs again for Comptroller next year.

  3. bamboozled

Send Tedisco to Washington so that Assembly Republicans can get back on message and back to rebuilding their conference.

Tedisco has been a complete disaster for Assembly Republicans.

A responsible leader, focused on winning elections rather than ingratiating personal headlines. (Question: Will the clown bring his ‘countdown’ necktie with him to DC?)

Brian Kolb comes to mind as an instant favorite, but what about Jack Quinn or Marc Molinaro – both young and capable legislators, perhaps leaders. Dave Townsend wouldn’t be a bad choice either. The Republicans just need to find a true leader and someone who will fire the untalented college kids Tedisco surrounded himself with and bring on board a team that knows how to develop a winning message and then sell it to the people of New York.

  4. Bill

Tedisco’s a total idiot. He’ll embarrass NY far more than Sweeney.

  5. Sarah Beth

Got a letter in the mail tonight from Senator Little. Apparently, her washed-up nasty Rasputin of a consultant, Brendan Quinn, put them in the mail too late to make a difference. Pathetic.

  6. As a Republican,

I’d take Gillbrand over Tedisco who jumped on the Greg Ball bandwagon. He’s another one who puts his career over his constituents.

  7. Ralph Mouth

Sounds like the Failed Quinn/Degnan Team is crying about another failed campaign.
