Voting-rights advocate moving on

Posted by: Cara Matthews - Posted in Uncategorized on Feb 02, 2009

Bo Lipari, a vocal advocate for voting reform, announced in an e-mail today that he’s passing the baton after five years as executive director of New Yorkers for Verified Voting. Lipari, who founded the group, said he’s going to remain active on voting issues, but he’s going to pursue several projects that have been on the “back burner for a long, long time.”

Lipari has led the group during a time when New York has struggled to implement the federal Help America Vote Act and replace its mechanical-lever voting machines. New York is under federal court order to comply with HAVA, something the state Board of Elections is still working on.

“I am very proud to have been part of this awesome grassroots citizens movement that proved, once again, that a small group of thoughtful people can indeed change the world,” Lipari said.

Wanda Warren Berry, a member of the group’s board of directors, will be taking over as executive director. Lipari said he will be staying on as technical adviser and media representative, and he will continue as the League of Women Voters’ representative on the state Citizen Election Modernization Advisory Committee.

Hello. My understanding is these were tax liens on Mr. Murphy’s business/es. It should be noted that the tax liens were apparently put in place AFTER he sold the related businesses. Therefore, if this information from the Murphy campaign is correct, the GOP information that he “didn’t pay his taxes” is out to lunch. The GOP again makes themselves out to be just a bunch of mudslingers so far as I can see. They lack substance and solutions and valid ideas for the future of our country. Electing one seems…well, out to lunch. Thank You.

The Consultant is, of course, correct. EVERYTHING these pols put out for public consumption is first put through the Johnny Cochran spin machine in the attempt to make hamburgers from turds.
