Paterson may lose top environmental adviser

Posted by: Jay Gallagher - Posted in Uncategorized on Mar 06, 2009

Gov. Paterson’s top environmental adviser is in the running to take a major job with the federal Environmental Protection Agency.

Judith Enck,  Paterson’s deputy secretary for the environment, would take over the federal agency’s office that covers New York,New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

She is one of the few holdovers left from the Spitzer administration in the top echelons of Paterson’s camp. She spent most of her career as an environmental activist before being hired by Spitzer in 1999 to advise him on environmental policy when he assumed office as attorney general in 1999.

she is not “in the running”....in light of patterson’s
polling numbers she is literally “running” to get as
far away from him as she can

  2. John Muir

Good. Let her go save moths and cockroaches down in St. Croix.

  3. Deb Sanders

Looks like the pheasant farm smack-down of Enck took its toll.

  4. Real Environmentalist

Judy Enck is not an environmentalist or scientist, she is an alarmist. She has her own agenda and does nothing to improve the environment for New Yorkers. To have her become the Region 2 Administrator would be extremely short-sighted.

She is consistently against technological fixes and in the past has used her influence to this effect. For example, she has opposed renewable energy status for Waste-to-Energy (WTE) in New York State, despite the fact that New York is one of the biggest users of WTE in the state and is supported by both NY senators. As a result of this opposition, New York City is shipping millions of tons of municipal solid waste by thousands of trucks to distant states for landfilling. Yet WTE is stated by DOE to be a major source of renewable energy in the U.S., on a par with geothermal energy and much higher than wind and soil combined.

However, she no doubt raises a lot of money for the Democratic Party, not enough, evidently, to be appointed a Caribbean Ambassador, but enough to keep the rum flowing and the Hibiscus flowering in Puerto Rico.
