GOP senators ready to act on budget

Posted by: Jay Gallagher - Posted in Uncategorized on Mar 31, 2009

Republicans emerged from their closed-door conference about a half-hour ago and arenow prepared to act on the state budget.

“We just wanted to go over some of the amendments we’re going to propose and look at the school-aid runs,’’ said Sen.  George Winner, R-Elmira, when asked what the GOP members were talking about.

The session is now set to start at 3 p.m.  – five and a half hours later than originally scheduled – and will continue “until we’re finished,’’ said Senate Majority Leader Malcolm Smith, D-Queens. That makes it likely that two bills that were introduced too late to be acted on today will be approved shortly after midnight. That will make the budget late, at least by a few hours, since the new fiscal year starts just after midnigh

Meet Sheldon Silver, the de facto Governor of the State of New York! The Manhattan liberal Democrat ran rings around amateurs Paterson and Smith in the budget battle among 3 New York City Democrats in a room. The political impact of having a one-party state should not be lost on anyone. Expect the same clandestine charade will take place next year among these myopic Democrats during the 2010-2011 budget process. 57 Counties in this State got shafted by the 3 wise men and their enablers in the majority Party.

Here’s the bad news: 8 million NYC residents only care about saving their $2 MTA fare. They don’t have a property tax problem. They don’t care if union costs are going through the roof (they’re the union members). The 57 counties include about 45 of ‘em that total less than 1 million people. What a shock that Upstate gets outvoted by NYC…and policies reflect NYC priorities.

Odds are the next NYC mayor will be a left wing Democrat, a throwback to Lindsay and Dinkins, sending that city spiraling back in time like an horrific H.G. Wells novel.

After Bloomie, of course, who is a bit of a megalomaniac, but is familiar at least with how to run a business.
