Battle On Over Same-Sex Marriage
On the heels of last night’s vote in the state Assembly to legalize same-sex marriage, the Empire State Pride Agenda is out with an ad this morning that features the parents of a Syracuse-area gay woman who wants to marry in New York.
“It’s heartbreaking to see these families go through this painful struggle,” said Empire State Pride Agenda Executive Director Alan Van Capelle. “Any parent wants their child to have everything they have and more, but these parents of gay and lesbian New Yorkers live everyday with the knowledge that their children are not treated like all other citizens of this state.”
The ad is part of what will be a major lobbying push by both sides of the issue as the focus shifts on whether the state Senate will take up the measure this year.
