Computer Lit,

Not so. The family limit is an aggregate amount but nowhere does the BOE state that family are bound to the $3,800 limit. So yes family can give as much as they want as long as the total (from all family) does not exceed $100,000.

Read the NYS handbook starting on page 23.

As to Loans I can find no document stating all loans need to be repaid before the election. Please provide where this is stated. I worked for a campaign in 2004 which required numerous loans and debt to carry on to term and after the election they continued to fundraiser to pay said debt with no legal repercussions from the Fed which we reported to regularly.

I cannot find the NY law which states differently.

P.S. I love how anyone who tries to point out discrepancies on this site automatically has to be someone who is Greg Ball, works for him, etc. I have never even met the guy.

If Ball is running for this 19th seat which would be election year of nov. 2010? and congressional term to begin 2011? then if he loses he would be out a job? since his assembly seat would be up too? Would this be a way for Ball to be out and unemployed? if he lost to Hall?

SR must be Greg's very bad attorney who is determined to see Greg go to jail.

Your interpretation of the law is way off. The Family limit laws do not pertain to individuals but to an entire family. Each individual is still held to the $3,800 limit. (the family law stops a rich fellow from having 10 members of his immediate family give $3800 each when everyone knows it is Dad's money)

But this is not even relevent to Greg Ball's filing since he did not put his Dad's and Brother's money down as contributions but rather as loans. Loans have thier own law. The law is that it has to be repaid by election day.

Ball is either very incompetent or woefully malicious.

The 15th of the month has come and gone and still no Personal Financial Disclosure from Greg. Shocking.

If this is my understanding as posted here, grandma can go to the bank and borrow 100grand to give to grandson ! Lucky grandson. Still amazing a bank would give such a large loan to an elderly person. maybe there were co signers as in balls parents. Whatever, ball is lucky to have family give so much.

Once again, Greggie is reminded that he's now playing with the big boys. I can't wait to FOIL for his filing Monday morning!

***Failure To File or Filing False Disclosure Statements***

The financial disclosure provisions of the Ethics in Government Act have been incorporated by reference as a rule of the House of Representatives, over which the Standards Committee has jurisdiction. In addition to any Committee action, EIGA authorizes the Attorney General of the United States to seek a civil penalty of up to $11,000 against an individual who knowingly and willfully falsifies or fails to file or to report any required information. Moreover, under federal criminal law, anyone who knowingly and willfully falsifies or conceals any material fact in a statement to the government may be fined up to $11,000, imprisoned for up to five years, or both.

The Committee is authorized to render advisory opinions interpreting the financial disclosure provisions of EIGA for any person under its jurisdiction. An individual who acts in good faith in accordance with a written advisory opinion shall not be subject to any sanction under the Act.

For those complaining about the so called illegal activity of Greg receiving donations or loans from his family perhaps you should learn the law. Family donations are not held to the same limits as regular donations. Family can contribute $.25 for every voter in the district or a minimum of $12,500 per up to a max of $100k for both the Primary and General election in the NYS Assembly.

Non-family members can contribute up to $3,800. There is nothing wrong with t he donations of Greg's family. If there were NY has had years to do something about it which obviously they have not and cannot.

If Greg Ball has questions about that anti-Ball concern, the Truth About Ball as it was called; well then perhaps he should ask his new pal Dan Birmingham.

It was, after all, Mr. Birmingham who was (is?) Chairman of the committee with his close and personal pal Michael Santos serving as Treasurer.

Wonder if Greg knew about that?

He does now!

Yet The Truth About Ball has filed receipts of $250,000 yet has reported absolutely no expenditures.

Today is the day Ball's PERSONAL financial disclosure is due. He has to disclose all his bank accounts, properties, cars, investments and any source of income.

I bet he does not do it. I bet he never files a personal financial disclosure.

Does it really matter if G.Balls grandmother borrowed all that money ? Surprising a bank loaned money to someone who is on in years. Maybe grandma is giving money towards G.Balls future in politics? Is that illegal? Interesting that Grandma's son lives with him and they surely must get a senior citizen break on senior star...so pay not to much in school taxes. So, maybe grandma wants to help her grandson.
Only a limited amount can be donated? How much can G.Ball pay back to himself?

Ball still doesn't appear on the Federal Election Commission web site as anything.

Ball doesn't have a new web site. All they did was change the page title. His Contribute page was changed to send thr money to his congressional account and not NY.

ok ...since SR and other Ball camp folks are very deep in denial - here is the link:

This shows the loans from relatives that were not paid back by election day ....therefore they are illegal contributions. Not rumors. Facts.

Greg Ball knows that the New York State Board of Elections asked him over a year ago for detailed records of all transfers from his campaign account, held at the time with with Wachovia Bank, N.A., to his personal account, held at the time with the United Services Automobile Association (USAA) Bank.

The information is all just a F.O.I.L. away so long as one knows where to look.

Ball's response to the request was less than satisfactory with his Treasurer (and father), Robert L. Ball, of 85 Fairway Drive, Pawling, NY, producing receipts for less than half of the transfers in question.

Unfortunatley, no new information can be obtained about this request and/or investigation. Perhaps a reporter at the Journal News could look into this.

It is important to note that due to budget constraints, the Board of Elections was forced to cut their investigation team down to one individual. Doubtful anything of purpose will be accomplished given the current situation.

Glad to hear the Feds are now getting involved.

i've heard similar about the fec investigating. working with fbi, agents have been reaching out and meeting with people who have had dealings with ball in the past and who were close to the campaign filings, etc. according to the nys boe – greg ball owes $77,215.27 in outstanding loans for his assembly account. loans include david ball (brother) giving $6,151.52 (this amount has fluctuated drastically and once was a debt owed - now it's a loan - huh?) and robert ball (father) loaned $10,000. the limit for an individual contribution is $3,800 so ball convinced them to "loan" the cash as a means to skirt around campaign finance laws - clever! but here is the kicker. loans must be re-paid by election day or it is an illegal contribution over the campaign limits. greg did not repay the loans so now both he and his relatives have broken nys law. this guy is out of control. its like he says “hey dad, ignore the limits and just give me $10,000 and i will put it down as a ‘loan’ that i wont pay back”. something very shady with the father/son relationship. very shady. the father, robert ball, assisted his mother, who has dementia, in taking out a $100,000.00 home equity loan in 2007 under her name. there are serious questions about how & where this money is going. if i were the fec investigators, i would ask the ag and irs to open investigations and audits into the personal finances of gregory r. ball and robert l. ball and any of their immediate relations. that is the only way you'll be able to reveal the criminal behavior.

Greg Ball, who so famously bandies about the expression 'forensic audit', may soon come to understand exactly what it means. Sources reveal that Ball's 'New Yorkers on the Ball' campaign committee will soon be audited by both the NYS BOE and investigators from the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

The suspected co-mingling of state and freshly-minted federal campaign accounts was of particular interest to the FEC, who prompted the audit of Ball's state committee.

Ball better get his ducks in a row. The NYS BOE is not running this show. It will be overseen by an FEC investigator who will demand every single piece of paper. I sure hope Ball keeps good records on those loans, and repayments. And the source of the money that funded the loan in the first place. As a federal candidate, he is open to and very well may be personally audited.

Just look at Ball's filings - they're so sloppy and shady. Something is not right.

I'm simply satisfied that someone is finally doing their job and looking into one of the more corrupt politicians in New York State.

We await the results of the investigation with baited breath...

Going over the BOE site on campaign finance, it looks like Ball has paid himself back with lots of the campaign donated funds. Is that legal? There seems to be lots of $ to ball.

Good! The less they do down there the better we all are. Send people who do nothing! My wife lost her credit card two years ago and I never reported it because the guy who stole it spends $2500 a month less than she did. I'm letting him keep it so long as he remains a reasonable spender.

This man is a dangerous demogogue. If he makes it to Congress, he’ll do no legislating; he’ll spend his time blasting Democrats in bombastic speeches; he’ll spend tim on O’Reilly and Hannity to become the face of aggressive conservatism; and he’ll raise money nationwide to run statewide. He’ll do exactly nothing for the people of Orange, Rockland, Dutchess and Putnam.

He did nothing in Albany. It’s not about bills passed – it’s about spending time working and drafting ideas, and meeting with people cooperatively to advance those ideas. No thanks – too archaic for Greg. His highlight is when he speaks on the floor, talks about debates as being Dog and Pony Shows, and leaves the hall after he’s spoken.

Greg Ball intends to be a Governor, or a US Senator, and President. Whether he gets there or not isn’t the point – that’s what his every action is directed to: political advancement as the spokesperson for ultra-conservative ideology.

nobody involved with Ball has ever cared about campaign finance. There's no need to rehash his own problems, but the 2007 SOS campaign was late filing and left plenty out, the 2008 Repulican Commitee takeover didn't file at all... not for the candidates and not as a committee. The 2009 SOS campaign isn't looking much better as nobody can even tell who they're giving money to any more. What a shell game!

I feel bad for Greg's relatives.

According to the NYS BOE - Greg owes $77,215.27 in outstanding loans for his Assembly account.

Loans include David Ball giving $6,151.52 and Robert Ball loaned $10,000. They have to loan the money because individual limit is $3,800.

Here is the kicker. Loans have to be re-paid by election day or it is an illegal contribution OVER the campaign limits.

Greg did not repay the loans so now both him and his relatives have broken NYS law.

This guy is out of control. Its like he says "Hey Dad, ignore the limits and just give me $10,000 and I will put it down as a 'loan' that I wont pay back".

A visit to Greg's GoHud blogs website turns up another interesting donation dilemma. If you try and donate money via PayPal, the recipient is GOPAC NY. A quick trip to the BOE site and it's been inactive since 1995. Where does the money go?
