Oppenheimer to Vote ‘Yes’ on Cuomo bill

Posted by: Gerald McKinstry - Posted in Uncategorized on Jun 03, 2009

State Sen. Suzi Oppenheimer, D-Mamaroneck, left me a message today and said she is going to support Attorney General Andrew Cuomo’s bill that would give taxpayers the power to eliminate or consolidate some layers of government. The Assembly passed it earlier this week and the Senate is expected to take it up Wednesday.

Oppenheimer, who previously objected to the bill, said she still has issues with it, notably the number of signatures required to get such a matter on the ballot, but has been assured by Cuomo and Senate Majority Leader Malcolm Smith that amendments will be made before the law is enacted in October.

She also agreed with critics that the state’s bigger problem was with unfunded mandates it passes down to communities and school districts that is inevitably picked up by local taxpayers.

One Response to “Oppenheimer to Vote ‘Yes’ on Cuomo bill”

Suzi seems to be flip-flopping on every issue lately. She said she was against the MTA bill- but voted for it and now she’s doing the same thing with this bill. Now that she is in the majority, she actually has to take a position on issues and its so clear she doesn’t know what she’s doing.

Someone please go on to youtube to see her trying to answer a question about education funding (shes the CHAIR of the education committee).
