Maloney: Biden phoned me

Posted by: Brian Tumulty - Posted in 2010, Congress, Democratic primaries, Joe Biden, Kirsten Gillibrand, U.S. Senate on Jun 04, 2009

Rep. Carolyn Maloney confirms she received a phone call yesterday from Vice President Joe Biden that included a discussion of the 2010 U.S. Senate race in New York.

Interviewed this afternoon between House floor votes, Maloney told the Gannett Washington Bureau that she discussed a variety of issues with Biden, including the Senate race.

“But he did not ask me to not run,’’ Maloney said. And she added, “I would not base a decision based on a telephone call.”

Maloney has said she is considering a Democratic primary against Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, but she declined this afternoon to discuss when an announcement will be made.

“But he did not ask me to not run,’’ Maloney said.

He doesn’t have to ask, he’s the VP. It’s implied. Otherwise why would he waste his time to talk to a peon like you.
