Judge declines to rule on Senate tussle

Posted by: Cara Matthews - Posted in Uncategorized on Jun 11, 2009

A state Supreme Court judge declined to rule this morning on the Senate Democrats’ request for a temporary injunction against a new coalition taking control of the chamber. A leadership coup on Monday, reached because two of the 32 Democrats in the 64-member chamber banded with the GOP, elected Pedro Espada, D-Bronx, as president pro tempore and Dean Skelos, R-Nassau County, as majority leaders. The 30 Democrats who are not in the coalition claim the takeover was illegal.

Well, is the court’s “refusal to block the takeover,” as headlined in the JN tantamount to allowing, and in effect, authorizing the takeover to take place? This ambiguous ruling, or non-ruling, only adds to the dysfunction. Maybe Silver has the right idea after all – to turn the whole circus of government into a Stalanist gulag. into The next step is for the entire elected and appointed “leadership” in this State to move the capitol to Disneyworld and strap on their mouse- ear hats.
