Paterson says he won’t be intimidated by personal attacks

Posted by: Cara Matthews - Posted in Uncategorized on Jun 26, 2009

This is Gov. David Paterson’s full response to a question he was asked about Democratic Sen. Kevin Parker’s statement that the governor is a “coke-snorting, staff-banging governor,” which refers to Paterson’s past admissions of marital infidelity and drug use. Parker has since apologized and called his comments “reprehensible and regrettable.”

“I am not going to be overreacting to defamation. I’m not going to be intimidated by personal attacks. My job is to … serve the people of the State of New York. They can keep hitting me. They can keep trying to hurt me. I’m going to stand up for what’s right. This War of the Roses between these two conferences, who right now if I weren’t in this they’d be fighting each other and doing this to each other. But they’ve only directed this at me to distract you from the fact that they’re not in the chamber or out of the chamber working their problems out. When they work their problems out, we can get back to business. As soon as they work their problems out, we can get to the necessary legislation that will expire on June 30.”

He’d be well advised to get himself a writer – and before that, to get himself an effective, experienced, well-schooled hatchet- man. He’s Lear, stripped of his kingdom, wandering blindly in the wilderness.

“I am not going to be overreacting to defamation”

    The Google definition of “defamation”:

    – a false accusation of an offense or a malicious misrepresentation of someone’s words or actions.

Didn’t he admit to the infidelity with a staffer and the cocaine use when he took over for Spitzer? How is this a false accusation? Between him and the State Senate fiasco, the inmates really are running the asylum!

Today he said he’s holding up their pork. He’s not critical of the pork; he’s not proposing an end to the pork; he’s nod complaining that the Party in power controls 90% of the pork barrel; he’s not exposing the worst porkers – he’s simply “holding it up.” Like they really care. They delivered news of the pork distribution already, and the pork- eaters on the receiving end will blame whom for the delay – the guv, of course. Is the master of spin, Larry Schwartz really on the payroll?

So – the latest threat is to hold up the pork. Paterson has a lot of sins in common with the prior ass who sat in his seat, but having a “threat-a-day,” and not following through on anything, sets him apart. Tomorrow he’ll threaten to send the State Police to arrest all of them, and all of them will threaten to vote to remove the State Police. So then, Sunday, he threatens to…

    Parker needs to RESIGN

If this had been a Republican, Al Sharpton would be on every TV and Radio station saying RESIGN, RESIGN, and would be holding daily marches calling for his resignation.

There is a DOUBLE STANDARD ok for Parker not OK for a Republican.
