Lesnick leads Castro-Blanco in money drive

Posted by: Len Maniace - Posted in Uncategorized on Jul 16, 2009

Yonkers Democratic City Council President Chuck Lesnick outspent his Republican challenger Jim Castro-Blanco at a 4-1 rate over the first six months of this year. Lesnick’s campaign spent $48,164 compared to Castro-Blanco’s $11,170, according to latest campaign financial disclosure records available from the New York State Board of Elections. Even with that big spending lead, Lesnick has nearly twice as much money on hand than Castro-Blanco, $50,717 to $26,808.

Lesnick’s big money lead can be attributed in part to his incumbency; He started the year with $29,386 in his campaign fund, while first-time candidate Castro-Blanco had nothing. The Key here is the Castro-Blanco didn’t begin raising money till mid April and is still within 20K of Lesnick! For someone with zero name recognition at the start Castro-Blanco has some serious traction against a 4 year incumbent. Should be a good race as Lesnick will be forced to defend his flip flops on Ridge Hill and other issues as well as his passing of tax increase after tax increase. Look for CB to raise big bucks in the coming months and gain support every day.
