How about a leader who is at least as smart as the Press, humorous, has firm views that never slide left of center without good judgement, knows how a budget is balanced, and who is relentless and competent at getting that message across to the majority in this State who will still respond to reason and common sense? Why in hell is this so difficult these days? We can't even seem to find mediocrity any more; we consistently find and select bumblers and self-servers on both sides of the aisle.

Yes, the GOP needs a Real "POLITICAL LEADER" not a front person, but that means someone who knows how to play the "GAME", not some "NOVICE".

One only has to look at "King Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Schumer and how need has so far removed the opposition to his "Queen" Gillibrand, he is not the "NEW" Boss Tweed of NY.

Paterson is helpless, DiNapoli is prying that nobody finds out the truth of how he was selected and elected to replace Hevesi in 2007.

The Democrat Senate "Crazy" Committee is lead by a Three Person Junta and is "INSANE"

Cuomo has the power to take "EVERYONE DOWN" with his investigation of the PENSIONGATE SCANDAL. The question WILL HE. ???

The GOP need a strong "POLITICAL LEADER" who can the cards well to victory in 2010.

Mondello needs to "FIND" that person and turnover the PARTY".

To A GOP LEADER, Remember the more things change the more they stay the same.

Mike,

You are correct.

Cox will not be the next leader.

He is weak, dumb and the wrong frontman.

The next leader for the gop can't be a hack (Faso), nor a fool (Cox), but a real leader.

There are a ton of folks who, having seen Albany up close and personal, understand that the old ways must change. The next leader must not give a shit and must simply fight for accountability. Times are changing.
And that alone is good,

I have to sadly say that I agree with many of the point made by " A GOP LEADER"

I too have sat in a room and listen to him and was bored to death, I have heard many times of his meetings with County Chairmen and others and all he did was talk about Nixon, etc

Again a fine Lawyer and advisor but not a "POLITICAL LEADER" The next State GOP Chairmen must above all be a"POLITICAL LEADER" and come from the ranks of the County Chairpersons or State Committee member.

A long time ago when George Clark was Chairmen I served on the State GOP Executive Committee and in 1991 I was one of the few "volunteers" who help Bill Powers in the early days. George & Bill were a strong leaders.

Thats what is need today.

Mondello needs to find a Strong replacement and install that person, and then retire to Florida,

Ed Cox is not a "Strong Political Leader"

I have know ever state GOP Chairmen since Dick Rosenbaum so I have good idea about who is or is not a "STRONG POLITICAL LEADER"

The question is. Who should the next state GOP leader be. Thoughout the state there will be new county chairs in the next few years. We will need new leadership on the state level.

A couple of points about Edward Finch Cox.

1) Who cares if he married a Nixon? That is meaningless in this day and age.
2) As the “leader” of the McCain campaign, it was painful to listen to him speak on behalf of McCain simply because he is an absolutely uninspiring speaker, cannot gauge his audience and he consistently steps on his own lines.
3) He is the wrong image for a leader here in NY simply because he represents everything that the GOP has to shed in order to become relevant to the common voter: the credentials of:
a) marrying well;
b) being a millionaire lawyer (Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP);
c) traveling in all the right power / elite circles (his family are all blue blood snobs: the “Finches, the Coxes, the Livingstons, and the Delafields;”
d) never wearing white after labor day while closing up the South Hampton beach house where he was born and raised;
e) leading a life rich with maids, servants, million dollar apartments (how many Kimba Woods issues does he and his family have);
f) the Princeton and Harvard sneer;
g) never having had a real job that was not obtained by wealth, political connections or family relations.

Edward Finch Cox is the damn poster boy of a spoiled Republican dilettante (he acts and looks like a classmate of Thurston J. Howell, III from Gilligan's Island), which the democrats will use to destroy any attempt at rebuilding the GOP as a party of the people. How, particularly in this time of economic distress, does a lock jawed trust fund baby translate to middle income voters? He does not. How can we rebuild the party, if the guy in charge is the personification of exactly the opposite of what are base should be? Did his son go to a public school?

And what about the man. Did anyone catch his bumbling, off topic and ill delivered recent “speeches” recently here in Westchester? At the GOP convention for Rob A, he was dreadful. At Dan Schorr’s convention, the idiot wasted everyone’s time by giving, get this, a speech on foreign policy and his views on historic US relations abroad! Unbelievable. He should have been given the hook, but the worst thing was not that Cox was so blind to the fact that his comments were not suited for the venue, but that he failed to recognize that his 20 or so minutes of boring ramblings totally took the crowd out of the event and even when people started to talk amongst themselves, totally ignoring him, he kept on going! He lacked the very basic ability to gauge the room, his audience and his “on the fly” success or failure. The fool could not stop reading his ill prepared comments, when it was painfully obvious that the room full of real deal republicans cared noting for his comments. If he cannot inspire or even hold the attention of a dedicated room or republicans, and if he thinks that a convention to nominated a local candidate for DA is the place for a speech that has nothing to do with the candidate or local issues, he has rocks in his head.

Edward Finch Cox is a nice rich, blue blood who, if GOP Chair, will utterly and completely destroy my party, the Republican party.

Republicans, just say no! Cox is simply the wrong brand.

guys like jackson above are the perfect example of why
the republican party in new york is on its death bed
they insist that to be a "true" republican you have to
take anti gay, anti gun and anti abortion positions
and its not enought that you are a fisal conservative
and tough on crime...if you don't tow their line you
are a rhino...ed cox is a stand up guy who might be
able to pull the party together so it can win statewide
again..he certainly is no liberal but he is not a right
winger either...but as long as the ultra conservative
rush limbaugh sean hannity crowd has anything to say
this intraparty war will continue both here in new york
and nationally..
