City Council primary goes bust in Mount Vernon

August
26

The busy Democratic primary for Mount Vernon City Council is shaping up to be no primary at all. Yesterday, the state Court of Appeals refused to hear a case by council candidates Sam Rivers and Michelle Walker, who were ousted from the Democratic ballot last week. A judge had ruled last week that their petitions were invalid because neither indicated on the petition whether they were running for full terms or for a shorter, unexpired term that also was open. Click here for ruling.

That decision follows the ouster of four other candidates — Collie Edwers, Debra Stern, Eileen Justino and Jennifer “Anne” Sampson — from the Democratic ballot for City Council. The four had been nominated by the Democratic City Committee to run for City Council, but were kicked off because they didn’t note that one of them was running for a shorter, unexpired term.

Candidates Yuhanna Edwards, Roberta Apuzzo, Karen Watts and Diane Munro were not dropped from the ballot because one of those candidates, Munro, indicated she was running for the unexpired term on their petition. So in the end, they are the only candidates left standing on the Democratic ballot for City Council.

Rivers will appear on the Conservative and Independence lines, and Walker on the Independence line. Edwers, Stern, Justino and Sampson will run on a newly formed line called One Mt. Vernon.

Democratic primaries will still take place for city domptroller and city judge.

I have to hand it to the guardian…they are completely tone
deaf..and I personally believe that the paper is simply
a handout for tony castro ..but i digress..in todays
“issue” they feature an article touting the fact that
sam rivers is going to the court of appeals…so prescient
are they that the same day they write the story noting
that rivers has hired (like he has any money to do it with)
John Ciampoli the republican election law guru, but this
evening pray tell…the court of appeals ain’t a gonna hear
it..so rivers is out on his behind…more important however
is the back cover of the guardian where richard blassberg
the law graduate never a lawyer editor touts 10 reasons
to vote for tony castro…mimicking letterman..but guess
what blassberg is pilfering from difiore demonstrating
once again that he has no original ideas for his
candidate…because difiore just last week sent out
a communication featuring 12 good reasons to support
her..so castro;s own “consultant” rather than developing
a strategy for castro pilfered one from difiore…
maybe that’s why tony lost to pirro and difiore
    with over 100,000 more democrats…

Rivers on the Conservative line. If that isn’t a microcosm of the sad state of politics extant in this State, nothing is. It’s as if LSD has been pumped into the State’s water supply. Is there left anyone sane out there? If so, negotiate for a small boat and get out under cover of darkness.
