Putnam GOP Chair Won’t Run For State Chair, Backs Cox — Again

Posted by: Joseph Spector - Posted in Uncategorized on Sep 15, 2009

scannapiecoAs Ed Cox wraps up getting the endorsements of the remaining county GOP chairmen in his bid to be state GOP chairman, he announced this morning that Putnam County Chairman Anthony Scannapieco is backing him and won’t himself run for the position.

“I believe we all have to work together and work hard to get our Republicans elected,” Scannapieco said in a statement.  “I will be there to support Ed and I have confidence that he will be a strong, independent-minded leader to move us forward.”

Scannapieco last month said that some Hudson Valley chairmen had reached to him to run for the state chairmanship, and Scannapieco said he would consider it.

It came at the same time he switched his support from Cox to Niagara County GOP chairman Henry Wojtaszek for the position. Wojtaszek dropped out last week.

Here’s which county chairs are supporting Cox.
