Spirit of cooperation in Yonkers?

Posted by: egarcia - Posted in Chuck Lesnick, Phil Amicone, Yonkers on Sep 22, 2009

Last week we saw a war of press releases between Yonkers Mayor Phil Amicone and City Council President Chuck Lesnick, but that doesn’t mean city officials can’t work together, according to former Yonkers Mayor Angelo Martinelli.

“I’ve seen a spirit of cooperation that I haven’t seen in many years,” said Martinelli, who as the chairman of the Yonkers Chamber of Commerce spoke this morning at the chamber’s breakfast at Lincoln High School.

City and business officials, including Amicone and Lesnick, gathered there to inaugurate a new college center funded by Entergy and set up by the Yonkers Partners in Education.

Martinelli said that the establishment of YPIE, a nonprofit set up in 2006 by Amicone, a Republican, and others to raise funds for the Yonkers Public Schools, is evidence of Yonkers’ residents’ ability to work with city officials to achieve positive results for the city’s children.
