Cuomo Stays Clear Of Governor Talk

Posted by: Joseph Spector - Posted in Uncategorized on Sep 30, 2009

Attorney General Andrew Cuomo spent more than four minutes this morning deflecting every question that was thrown at him about whether he’s running for governor.

WGRZ in Buffalo has the full clip here.

On when he’s going to announce his candidacy for governor: “I plan on doing the best job I can as attorney general.”

On whether he could push government consolidation and lower taxes better as governor than attorney general: “I am working on the consolidation issue. We had a good deal of success this past year. We actually had a piece of legislation passed on the matter.”

On his speech this morning being more of a gubernatorial stump speech: “It was in many ways, it was the same thing I’ve been talking about for the past three years.”

On whether President Obama was right to try to force Gov. David Paterson out of the gubernatorial race:
“President Obama obviously has his political views and his right to them. Governor Paterson, any person in this room, has a right to their political views. Personally, what I’d like to do is focus on being attorney general this year, focus on doing my job.”

On whether he would he consider Paterson as his lieutenant governor:  “My plan is to run for re-election as attorney general next year. That’s what I’m planning on, that’s what I’m focusing on.”

On whether he’s seen or spoken to the governor since they were Troy together last week to greet Obama: “I don’t believe so. I don’t know if we’ve spoken since. I speak to him regularly.”

On why his campaign sign “Cuomo 2010” that was behind him during his speech this morning doesn’t indicate what seat he’s seeking: “We didn’t want to pay for the extra letters.”
