Special Session or Budget Hearings?

Posted by: Joseph Spector - Posted in Uncategorized on Oct 19, 2009

Gov. David Paterson last week indicated he wants to call a special session of the state Legislature on Oct. 27, but Senate Democrats this morning said they are holding a hearing on the budget that day in Long Island.

Senate Democrats are holding a hearing on Monday, Oct. 26, in Manhattan and on Tuesday, Oct. 27
in Brookhaven, Suffolk County. They are also planning one either later that week or the following week in the Hudson Valley and in Buffalo, Senate aides said.

Senate Democratic spokesman Travis Proulx said senators aren’t trying to sidestep Paterson’s call for a special session, saying the governor has yet to officially announce when one will be called.

“At this point, no indication has been given to us if and when a special session is being called,” he said. “We have to continue our work.”

Assembly Democrats are also holding hearings on the budget: Wednesday in Albany and Friday in Syracuse.

One Response to “Special Session or Budget Hearings?”

What a hapless figure is this “governor,” worthy of a Shakespearian tragicomedy! Hamlet meets Lear, with a bit of Othello thrown in. In actuality, Silver is the “Accidental Governor.” Andy’s old Rasputin, Schwartz, advises Paterson to take no direct action, hoping that the legislature, and not he, will be blamed for necessary cuts and inevitable tax increases, and, despite a COLA of zero, and massive private sector unemployment, government and teachers’ unions will again be paid off with taxpayer funds in return for personal political backing. And our biggest taxpayers say ‘sayonara’ and head a few miles north on the Merritt Parkway.
