Sheldon Silver: Legislator Of The Year

Posted by: Joseph Spector - Posted in Uncategorized on Oct 20, 2009

That’s according to Environmental Advocates, which is out with its 2009 Voters’ Guide on how lawmakers voted on environmental issues.

Silver, the powerful Assembly majority leader from Manhattan, was honored as “Legislator of the Year” for doing the “most to advance environmentally beneficial policy.”

They praised Silver for his leadership role on MTA refinancing and the Green Jobs-Green New York Act, which will allow people and businesses to get financing to make their homes and companies more energy efficient.

Of course, not everyone is happy with Albany these days. Just check out this New York Times editorial from yesterday. And a Siena College poll found today that only 24 percent of New Yorkers think the state is on the right track.

The environmental group didn’t heap praise on all Democrats, however.

It awarded Sen. Craig Johnson, D-Nassau County, its “Oil Slick” award, which is given to the public figure who has done “the most to derail New York’s environmental protections.”

They claim Johnson “thwarted progress on legislation that would require manufacturers to recycle toxic electronic waste (E-waste) and aligned himself with Long Island’s biggest E-waste manufacturers.”

Who won the ‘ATTORNEYS AGAINST TORT REFORM’ Legislator of the Year Award?

Like it or not, if the topic is environmental policy, Silver and the Assembly Democrats are the leaders in Albany. Yeah, yeah, I know, everybody here hates the Democrats, and villifies everybody in state govt. But that doesn’t change the facts. Now, if you’re anti-environment, then of course, blast away…

how does sheldon silver justify getting paid by a personal
injury law firm for his supposed law practice while at
the same time voting on and controlling legislation on
behalf of the trial lawyers..its either one or the other

And the key words are: ‘controlling legislation,’ which is is patently the case, and wherein lies the insult added to injury. In addition, he refuses to divulge his ‘duties’ or his income from this firm, such income which is rumored to be substantial in the extreme.

Well, apparently, the topic of the environmental award means nothing to you two. The refrain about tort “reform” is a familiar Republican-Conservative one. God forbid somebody’s or some corporation’s negligence costs you or a loved one your life or livelihood, then let’s see what “reform” means to you.

This State is bankrupt (again) and Silver is, and has been, one BIG reason. He continues to fiddle as Rome burns, eschewing even discussion as called for by his Democrat governor. After we save the people, we can save the whales, lick trees, etc.
