Former Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno arrived for his federal corruption trial this morning in Albany and said he will be found innocent.
“I’m doing great. Looking forward to this day,” he said in the video posted by Kyle Hughes of nysnys.com. “I’ve been looking forward for a long time to this day. I’ve done nothing wrong, and over the next several weeks that’s going to be proven.”
Jury selection was underway this morning as Bruno seeks to fight back charges that he accepted more than $3 million from people who had business before the state in exchange for his influence.
The trial, which is viewed as having a potentially wide-ranging impact on Albany politics, is expected to last as long as six weeks.

He should be embarrassed and incarcerated. That said, he did nothing differently than many dozens of them up there in the Senate and Assembly, other than to be more blatant and reckless. So long as none of the rest of them are going to be held accountable for anything whatsoever, fairness would dictate that he should be charged only with blatancy and recklessness. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he got off and they all go back to business as usual.
There is a Presian Proverb in support of Bruno:
There was a trial going on in 16th Century Bagdad, . . .
There was a thief who was being tried in the Court Room for Stealing – and [reading]exactly what Brono is saying [reminds me] of this folk tale –
In this type of situation a “proverb” developed that goes like this:
“The Thief is getting mad [scolding] at the Judge” . . . !
