It is unfortunate that some people still view winning an election in terms of charisma. That, unfortunately, is one of the problems with our political two party system, it is based more on winning than on actual qualifications and ability.

this is a victory for conservatives..but not the kind
that jim kelly wants you to think it is. small government fiscally conservative governors won in virginia and
new jersey..rob astorino won in westchester by an overwhelming margin in a county that is two to one
democratic..but not because he is a rush limbaugh
sara palin clone..it is because he articulated the
frustraitons of many voters whose "quality of life"
has gone down in terms of their ability to financially
maintain their standards of living..in upstate 23
where all voters are rural and coservative from
plattsburgh to watertown to massina and malone
and saranac lake, doug hoffman was nothing but another
talking head who knew nothing at all about anything
that mattered to the people who live in the district
and in fact he himself did not live in the district.
so this is a populist bi partisan effort to stop
runaway spending and bloated county governments or
state governments it is not a reaffirmation of
the chirstian rights mantra on social issues and
if repbublicans don't recognize that they will simply
do what hoffman did ..come close but lose
who

Scozzafava was a liberal but this cannot be seen as anything but a Democratic victory. Attempts to spin it as a conservative victory are silly. TEA PARTY ACTIVISTS LOST! IF you can't demonstrate that you can win a Republican district and attract non-conservatives, than your movement is limited to hurting the Republican Party. Hoffman was a terrible candidate. Perhaps someone with the same views but more charisma who actually knew local issues would have won by a comfortable margin.

The Republican should have been elected by a comfortable margin. Radical, over-the-top Conservatives saw to it that this did not happen. When they learn that they are just as anathematic to the large middle as are the radical liberals, they just might offer viable right-of-center candidates and get off their overweight high horses.

Dreams can still be obtained & are alive here in America. Americans are PROUD of our Doug Hoffman, a previously unknown 59-year-old accountant from Lake Placid — who attracted and united social and fiscal conservatives from across this country!

Doug took on the National & State GOP & the Dem Parties by standing on principles and fought the good fight across this country. God Bless Doug Hoffman for being a great American hero! (Just coming up short by 4,000 votes of the 131,262 votes that were cast)

Political media must understand that the State Republican candidate Dede Scozzafava was NOT a moderate as they have been writing but a Liberal far to the left of Bill Owens who was the Democrat on all fiscal & social issues.

Dede was selected as the GOP candidate NOT the people/voters but by the process of a backroom deal. To his credit, Owens simply had the ground troops last night from within the party to pull it off.
