When news of the Yonkers Board of Education’s Sept. 29 lawsuit against Yonkers Inspector General Philip Zisman became public, various City Council members denounced the suit as a waste of money

The Journal News submitted a Freedom of Information law request to the Yonkers Public Schools seeking a copy of the retainer agreement and any invoices submitted so far in this case.

According to the retainer the law firm of Lewis and Fiore will receive $400 an hour for the services of David Lewis and bills will be presented monthly.

The first monthly bill was issued Oct. 1 for work in August and September.  It totaled $15,800 for research, preparing the law suit and other work. Out-of-pocket expenses totaled $221.74.

The Board of Education sued Zisman because it wants the state Supreme Court to rule on whether Zisman has the authority to audit the district’s books.
