Rudy Giuliani wouldn’t rule out a future run for political office, but said now is not the right time, pointing to his growing private businesses.
At a news conference in Manhattan, Giuliani said he supports Republican Rick Lazio for governor, but says he decided around Thanksgiving to not run for any statewide office in 2010.
“This is not a decision not to run for anything else,” he told reporters. “It’s a decision purely about 2010 and what I can and can not do in 2010, occasioned by a lot of commitments that I have and having learned from the last time I ran, you can’t really try to do two things or maybe three things at once.”
He said his consulting firm’s decision last month to advise Rio de Janeiro on lowering crime in advance of the 2016 Olympics probably ended his thoughts about running for office nextyear.
“The reason is I will literally be too busy on the things I’m very enthusiastic about and very interested in and I can’t really pull myself away from,” Giuliani continued. “I have no idea whether I’ll run for something else or never run against. I just have no idea.”
