Senate Republicans Say They Were Excluded From Ethics Proposal

Posted by: Joseph Spector - Posted in Uncategorized on Jan 13, 2010

Senate Minority Leader Dean Skelos, R-Nassau County, said the agreement to be announced later this morning on ethics reform is not the act of bi-partisanship it’s being made out to be.

He said Senate Republicans didn’t see the bill until yesterday. Assembly Republicans, however, are apparently on board with the agreement.

“It is unfortunate that despite their claims of bipartisanship, Democrats in the Senate and Assembly refused to include Senate Republicans in the negotiation of ethics reform legislation, and that they chose not to give us a bill draft until late yesterday,” Skelos said in a statement.

“Apparently Speaker Silver and Senate Democrats think it’s more important to negotiate directly with special interests than with the other elected officials they want to support the bill.

“We are reviewing the legislation to see how it differs from the ethics reform bill that Senate Republicans were prepared to support last year, before Senate Democrats pulled it from the floor to prevent a vote. That bill was a good first start and, as before, we may offer amendments that seek to strengthen the bill.”

In September, an ethics bill introduced on the Senate floor was rejected by Senate Republicans because Democrats sought to add amendments to the Assembly bill that passed in June. On that day, Democrats were minus one member, Sen. Brian Foley, because of a death in his family, leaving Democrats without the 32 votes necessary to pass the ethics bill.

Republicans voted against the amendment and then Democrats pulled back the main bill—a rare defeat of a bill on the Senate floor.

What? “Senate Republicans Say They Were Excluded From Ethics Proposal” . . . Where did this happen? Where? State of New York. Wow! May be they may have thought that the “these Republicans” -do not needs ethics!

Remeember as a Voter when the Republican PArty Leadership in State Poltics gave the defination of “Bipartisiansship” and for example in Clarkestwon – One Town Supervisor gets elected without any opposition candidate! and on various occassions they even did not campaign of support their own Party’s Candidate – The Local Level Republican Leadership call that Party Lines – And, for example if the Voters don’t like HAIBHASAN AN AMERICAN STORYTEELLER for an Office then they have no choice either or every way the Candidate on the Ballot ends up as HABIBHASAN and HABIBHASAN only! How about that?!!!!! Enjoy?!!!! It’s like calling others Chirman Mao and acting yourself like that first – This is called killing the OPPOSITION and making a system of ONE MAN RULE – Disrespecting the very Constitutional Foundations of Democray in Our Country – I understand We are a Nation of Immigrants, but when you arrived you said you wanted to be an American Got the Green Card and boom! -Now you are ready to change the Country -Someone lied to The Republic that it stand for. Do you want to be an American? It’s not the Republic’s fault, if the INS called you “Alien” Please stop fooling the Law.

The Constitution of The United States of America is a legal document and one should not use the legal document for self-centered and unconstitutional means whatsoever – Elections are not meant just as a fullfillment and not vacating the Pulic Offices after term one or two terms – In 2010 consolidating oneself UNOPPOSSED is something that is beyond anything – What is working in the Small Towns [under the disguise of small town] Law of The United States or some secret protocole? . . .

Skelos is into “Buy-Partisanship”. The Assembly Republicans agreed to this plan. NY Public Interest Research Group, Citizens Union and the League of Women Voters thinks its a good first step.

Skelos – who cut deals with Espada and Monserrate, good ethics, there Dean-o – doesn’t want the Dems to have any accomplishments. He wants to run against the Dems, period, and win back the chamber.

Oh yes and Governor Paterson didn’t like the plan much either. He wants to veto anything and everything, and try to ride the back of voter anger over bad policies – which he was PART and PARCEL of for 25 years – to a full-term as Guv. Yeah, sure. You got better ethics, Guv? Why’d you hustle up free Yankee Tickets during the playoffs??? It’s ILL-EAGLE to do so.

Fer cryin’ out loud – do the bill, get sumpthin done, and then keep going.
