Former Tennessee U.S. Representative Harold Ford, Jr. visited Grace Baptist Church in Mount Vernon this afternoon for the United Black Clergy of Westchester’s annual MLK Jr. memorial.

The guest preacher was the Rev. Al Sharpton, who brought Ford with him and introduced him to the packed sanctuary.

Ford is considering challenging New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in the Democratic primary in September.

Ford didn’t speak at the service, but Sharpton said he asked Ford to come to Mount Vernon to experience Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in a northern church.

“I told him, you need to go to a real King celebration at a real church. He was born and raised in Memphis, where they have real churches. And I told him they have cathedrals, and they have churches and they have cathedral churches, and I’m a bring you to a cathedral church called Grace,” Sharpton said before introducing Ford.
