Rumors swell about gov’s past and future in Albany

Posted by: Cara Matthews - Posted in Uncategorized on Feb 08, 2010

It’s been one anonymous source or rumor after another at the Capitol for days now. All of them have to do with Gov. David Paterson and alleged indiscretions and whether that might force him out of office. Everything centers around the New York Times, which is said to be working on an enlightening story about Paterson.paterson14

Paterson’s office has sought to quell any rumors. This is a statement from Peter Kauffmann, a spokesman for the governor:

“This is a new low even by the standards of planet Albany. The circus of the past week—entirely fabricated out of thin air and innuendo—is an embarrassment for all who have played a role in feeding it.”

Politico is reporting this afternoon that Paterson plans to sit down for an interview tomorrow with the New York Times.

Rick Lazio, who is seeking the GOP nomination to run for governor this year, came to Paterson’s defense with this statement:

“The rumors about the Governor are a sad reflection of Albany politics. No public official deserves to be the subject of over a week of innuendo and nasty speculation. If the New York Times is working on or has a story then they should confirm or print it. If they do not, then they have an obligation to stop this rumor mongering right now. Common decency demands it.”

The venerable Guv has supposedly banned State Troopers from the Executive Mansion. Guess is that he’s afraid of being charged with Reckless Jiving and Falsie Imprisonment.

  2. THE CONSULTANT

this governor is a disaster…..he has embarassed himself
and his party…apparently democrats think that simply
substituting andy cuomo will compensate for the records
of the last 2 democratic governors, spitzer and patterson
but you know what..I suspect that the people of the state
of new york will want a complete break with one party
    rule

Yes, Consultant, they want balance – so they’ll give the Senate back to the Rs, and reduce the # of Ds in the Assembly, but spin it however, Cuomo will win as Governor. As you know, it’s not about “the Democrats”; the Republican Party functions that way, as a single unit, but the Ds are always a squabbling set of individuals. They will accept Cuomo as nominee because he put it together and Paterson is a disaster. The State is still fundamentally Democratic, even if Ds lose some seats. The Rs will recapture things they should have never lost – 4-5 upstate Congressional seats; about 10 Assembly seats; 2-3 State Senate seats. It will give a needed two-party balance…but it will not bring Texas-style Republican philosophies into power – which now, are sadly, consultant, far to the right of your brand of Republicanism. More like the loudmouth style of DioGuardi. Angry. Combative.Self-righteous. Rough/tough. Worth about 35% of the electorate statewide. A smooth, corporate Republican can win the remaining 15% necessary to get to 52-53%. Not an angry, loudmouth Tea Party Republican.

  4. History Major

Cuomo, while a child running HUD, (as a political payoff,) was one of the venerable founding fathers of the financial crisis that we find ourselves presently swimming through. Anyone who doesn’t know that has no knowledge of history.

  5. YeaWeNeedAnotherNutJob

Andrew “Freddo” Cuomo would actually be worse than daddy, if that could be imagined.

If the voters of New York elect another Cuomo to be Governor they will deserve the destruction of the economy and the ruination of justice that will naturally follow.
