Several call for probe of choice of Aqueduct VLT operator
There were several calls from public officials today to investigate the selection of Aqueduct Entertainment Group to operate video-lottery terminals at Aqueduct Race Track in Queens. Gov. David Paterson recently awarded the contract to AEG, whose investors include the Rev. Floyd Flake, a former congressman whose endorsement the governor has been seeking.
Paterson has said he stands by his choice.
—Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, D-Manhattan, sent a letter to state Inspector General Joseph Fisch that asked for a review of the bidding process used by the state Division of the Lottery and other agencies that were involved.
—Senate Republican Leader Dean Skelos, R-Nassau County, asked Senate Democratic Leader John Sampson, D-Brooklyn, to conduct a bipartisan public hearing on AEG’s selection and to review proposals from other bidder.
This is an excerpt from his letter:
“News reports have chronicled charges of political favoritism, possible legal investigations into the selection of AEG, and reports that the bid criteria were repeatedly changed to favor AEG. Legislators and the public have a right to know if there is any truth to these charges. The taxpayers of this state and the people who live in the community surrounding Aqueduct also deserve more information so they can have confidence that the right group was chosen.
—Sen. Ruben Diaz, D-Bronx, has asked Sampson to create a committee to investigate the selection of AEG (much like the one Sampson created to probe now-former Sen. Hiram Monserrate, D-Queens, who was ousted by his colleagues this week in connection with a misdemeanor assault conviction; Diaz voted no on the expulsion).

You needed to call for an investigation before the “FEDS” delivered subpoenas not after.

Memo to NYGOP Draft Sarah Palin for Senator
71% of americans believe sarah palin is not qualified
to be president..and that includes a majority of
republicans
99% of Americans who have read the Consultant’s comments, articles, hack local tv appearances, etc. don’t consider him to be a Republican, anymore. He voted for Obama, generally supports Democrats locally, (Spano, DiFiore, etc.) and has never shown himself to be a fiscal, foreign policy, or social conservative on these pages or elsewhere. He typically uses a ridiculous rhetorical device where he cites a liberal position from a Republican politician or conservative commentator to try and claim he is Republican i.e. Barry Goldwater is pro-choice, so it must be a conservative position. Or Pat Buchanan is a conservative and against the Iraq War, so being against the Iraq War must be a conservative position. Basically anyone who has graduated from college realizes the fallacy of this argument.
Yes, indeedy let’s have that litmus test for TRUE BLUE CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICANS:
No abortions! Check.
Death penalty for sure. Check.
NO Gay marriage. Check.
Cut back on govt in every way except the military. Check.
Make public employees pay more. Check.
No restraints on business. Check.
Take as much campaign donations as you can. Check.
Give tax breaks to the wealthy and to business. Check.
No environmental regs that hurt development. Check.
Reduce all social programs. Check.
More military spending to fight in the muslim world. Check.
No stinkin’ trials – just string ‘em up. Check.
Did I miss anything?

Fighting Fritz is a moron. What always amazes me about Democrats is that they can’t take that Senator Lieberman disagrees with you them on a few issues like Iraq and backs them on healthcare, abortion, guns, taxes, and almost everything but than they bash Republicans for believing that Republicans should stand for a few core principles like actually backing Republicans.
Fighting Fritz, taking Frank Rich’s talking points and presenting them as your own just makes you sound stupid.
WC, no moron at all. I just disagree with the continual right-wing blather I hear on talk radio and on all the blogs. The Right can’t stand having any Democrat ever in power…and they vote NO from Day One until they topple whatever Dem stands in their way. A moron, actually, is someone who believes that putting the Republican Right back in power after a few months of not holding the White House, and three years after holding Congress will make everything OK. It wasn’t OK before.
For every Frank Rich, there’s a Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, and more shoving a daily dose of right wing medicine down the throats of Americans, with hardly any counter programming.
