Assemblyman Mike Spano on Oscars privation

Posted by: egarcia - Posted in Uncategorized on Mar 07, 2010

State Assemblyman Mike Spano, D-Yonkers, released the following statement this afternoon in response to Cablevision’s decision to pull ABC programming from its signal.

“I am disappointed that ABC Disney pulled the signal, denying millions of New York area households the ability to see WABC-TV.  It is time for both parties to put consumers first and, therefore, I am calling on ABC Disney and Cablevision to agree to a binding arbitration process to resolve this matter.  It is imperative that consumers be held harmless during this process by having the signal restored immediately.”

Case closed. Certainly now that Mike Spano has made his presence felt, both parties will crumble and the soap operas will be immediately back. If there were a book store left in Yonkers, I’d suggest you buy a book. Amazon?

Spano said that in any business, as in politics, “there are good and bad professionals” and that he would assess his clients’ goals and strategies honestly.

“I will operate the same way I operated when I was a legislator,” he said.

His clients include Cablevision, Cappelli Enterprises, Ginsburg Development Corp, Greater New York Hospital Association and Yonkers Raceway. Patricia Lynch Associates, which had partnered with his firm on the lobbying side, will remain an quity partner, Spano said.

Spano will also make more money as a lobbyist than he did as a state senator – senators make $79,500 a year, not including stipends.

“The financial (benefits) are even greater,” he said. “Having an opportunity to work in the private sector affords an opportunity to make more money. ”

“Serving in government is, frankly, an addiction,” Spano said. “If there’s ever an opportunity to make a contribution, I would consider it.”
