Levy Talking To Republicans, But Not Switching Parties

Posted by: Joseph Spector - Posted in Uncategorized on Mar 08, 2010

Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy is still roiling the political waters as he tests his viability as a gubernatorial candidate, most likely with Republicans.

But the Democratic county executive said he has no plans to switch parties. But then again, he’s still talking up trying to get the Republican nomination and meeting tomorrow with state GOP committee leaders, who are apparently still not sold on Rick Lazio as the GOP nominee.

“I have no plans to do so,” Levy said of switching enrollments on Talk 1300-AM, “and the reason is, even if I did so tomorrow, I couldn’t get on the ballot. It would have to be the Republican Party that nominates me.”

He said his loyalty is “to the people of New York State. I’m a post-partisan kind of guy. I really don’t care about the labels and I think that what’s resonating with the public.”

Levy’s overtures with the GOP isn’t sitting well with Democrats. But state Democratic chairman Jay Jacobs said he doesn’t think Levy will ultimately join with the Republicans.

“I think that jumping to the Republican Party, whether you change your registration or not, that’s more semantics than anything else – you run on the Republican line, you’re changing parties,” Jacobs said.

“But when you change parties to take a move up, to take a step up to a higher office because you can’t get there through your own party, what you’re doing is you’re putting your values and your principles second to ambition,” Jacobs said on the radio station.

“I just don’t think that’s a good message. I can’t believe he’s really going to do it.”

Mr. Levy contradicts himself blatantly on this topic of party labels and switching. Why not run a primary against his own party if that is how strongly he feels about it?

Mr. Levy is serving the will and benefit of the Democrat party by trying to buy himself the Republican ballot with his substantial treasury. If Mr. Levy opposes the Democrat incumbent or any other Democrat challenger he should step up and do it in a primary.

If the Republicans grant him the nomination and Wilson – Pakula petition over Republicans then they are ripe for an unprecented revolt of the first order. Trying to confuse Tea Party groups with double speak will be of no avail.

A leftist will not push the Republicans to the conservative right. The semantics of a Democrat Conservative makes as much sense as a Progressive Republican.

His nomination will not push the Republican party to the right nor pull the Democrat party from the Left. It will split the vote and assure a status quo victory in November.

    Mr. Levy answer this question:

    1. Did you vote for Obama or Mcain?

    2. Did you vote for Spitzer or Faso?

    3. Did you vote Hillary Clinton for Senator or Lazio?

You voted for your party across the board and now want to occupy the Republican ballot to in effect deny a Republican to run against the status quo. More slick oil salesman need not apply Sir.

republicans would be more than foolish to allow
a democrat their line to run for governor…first of
all aside from rick lazio who actually is arepublican
i am sure there are plenty of republicans who are
more than qualified if Lazio for some reason chooses
not to run…additionally Levy would probably not
get the conservative party line..and finally levy is
an incumbant…this year will not be a good year for
any incumbant..including andy cuomo when the repubilcans
get through reminding people of just what a tax
and spend governor his father was..and just how liberal
his father was…the apple does not fall far from the
tree…andy learned at his fathers knee and voters
can expect the same disaster if he should ever become
    governor

Levy can work to get his party nomination and the balalot bby bumping off all other contenders, to include the Rampao Town Supervisor who is pretentiousness obliges a run for LTG. The Ramapo Town Supervisor has alot explaining to do about a half million dollar payout to a probationary female police officer who never graduated training. Where is the party leadership about bonding a $25million unapproved boondoogle building a baseball stadium in a residential area of the town. Mr. Levy has yet to explain or do admonish his own party, let alone, seeking the republican balalot.

    sorry.. texting typos.

Levy is a far better choice than Laziostein, if the NYGOP ran him with John Faso they would have a “REAL” Bipartisan and experience ticket.

Laziostein is supported by the very same people who sold this state and the NYGOP down the river, they sold Faso down the river in 2002 when he ran for Comptroller, and they sold everybody down the river in 2006 how they are onboard with Laziostein.

The rest of the ticket “Honest” Chris Callaghan for comptroller and law and order Michael Garcia for Attorney General

They will keep an eye on everyone

“After Four Years of Scandals it is time for Levy/Faso/Callaghan/Garcia”

Blame the dearth of GOP names on Pataki and Giuliani, neither of whom could bear to have another prominent Republican around. The cupboard includes talented people like Faso, but because he got bumped for Comptroller in 1994 for Herb London, as part of a deal to get Pataki in, you coulda had John as a statewide name when you needed him.

Levy is FAR from a “slick oilman.” He cuts waste wherever he can – my boss actually works with him, and he said once he’s done with a piece of paper, he crosses it out and writes on the back! He got rid of his police escort when elected, cut his own salary by $70,000, and drives himself places! Levy was also re-elected with 96% of the vote, with every party on the ballot endorsing him. He is a moderate Democrat, and it would be smart if the Republicans took a closer look at supporting him – because he has raised far more money than the only Republican (Lazio) campaigning for the seat… about seven times as much money.
