The controversial comments from expected Republican gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino continued this morning when he told the West Seneca Rotary Club that Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, D-Manhattan, should be put in Attica.
Gannett’s WGRZ television station has the clip below (the remarks about Silver are near the end.)
Paladino, a Buffalo businessman, said, “I’m gonna try like hell to send Sheldon Silver to Attica. On the way to Attica, we’re gonna have him stop in all those little communities along the Thruway, and I’m going let those people beat him up a little bit.”
He’s the latest western New York Republican to take aim at Silver. Erie County Executive Chris Collins, who also had gubernatorial inspirations this year, compared Silver to Hitler and the anti-Christ, comments that helped lead Collins to drop his election plans.
It’s the second day in a row that Paladino has made headlines with his remarks. Yesterday, he compared the health-care bill in Washington to 9/11, upsetting families of 9/11 victims.
“The day that that bill was passed will be remembered just as 9/11 was remembered in history,” Paladino said yesterday on a New York City radio show. “It was an attempt by these people in Washington to defy the constitution.”
