Ball: Tonight’s GOP convention is “illegal” and “illegitimate”
State Assemblyman Greg Ball, who is running for the 40th state Senate seat, is calling tonight’s scheduled Republican convention that will pick a Senate candidate “nothing more than an illegal, illegitimate publicity stunt.”
Ball, who is in his second Assembly term, said he was never notified of the event and learned of it only through others.
“I’ve never been the candidate of the good ol’ boys and I’m proud to be the Albany outsider in this race,” Ball said in a statement. “The same hand of Albany’s Republican Leadership that handpicked Pedro Espada is now picking their puppet in our backyard. Albany needs independent leaders, not puppets. My grassroots outsider message of limited government and supporting constitutional freedoms has enormous support in this district. I didn’t go to Albany to make friends, I went to Albany to make a difference. What the eltitists in Albany’s ivory tower don’t get is that voters of all persuasions are ready to take their state back, away from the same corrupting special interests that I fight everyday.”
In an e-mail he sent to GOP county chairs in Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess, as well as state Republican Chairman Ed Cox, Ball called for the convention to be postponed because Dutchess leaders are unable to attend. The district covers all of Putnam County, parts of Dutchess County and Peekskill, Cortlandt, Yorktown, Somers, North Salem, Lewisboro, Pound Ridge and Bedford in Westchester County.
Both Ball, R-Patterson, and Somers Supervisor Mary Beth Murphy are vying for the GOP endorsement in the race for the 40th.
This afternoon, both Westchester GOP chairman Doug Colety and Putnam GOP chairman Anthony Scannapieco said the event would go on as planned.
“The convention was properly noticed,” Colety said, adding he knew Ball was aware of the gathering.
Ball’s campaign tonight plans to “announce the formation of a People’s Convention on July 24.”

The most powerful and most popular elected official in Putnam County. Greg Ball.
What is this man talking about he has the support of all 3 County Chairs. This is a slap in the face to them. When will they realize they are being used.
The biggest USER in this county is Vinny Leibell. Someone is about to find that out the hard way.
What a joke Greg Ball is, first he complains about how he was molested as a kid, and now he is complaining the republican party is molesting him. Greg Ball is the insider of all insiders, he has buddied around with Colety and Scannipieco and now he is aware that he is going to lose in a republican party committee nomination and he attacks those who backed in for many years. I do not believe Greg Ball was ever molested but I know that he has behaved like a whore for years.
Never fear Rome; the Serpent lies coiled in Naples.
Same old stuff. Gets boring after hearing it over and over how Ball is an outsider…etc. Why does the paper even print Ball anymore?
Never fear Rome.
The Serpent lies coiled in Naples.

Ball does one thing well, he plays the media like chumps and they serve as his unknowing public relations people. Ball believes any press is good as long as his name is in the media. Ball mat have met his match this year and he is running scared.
Ball is putting it to his two friends Coltey and Scannipieco, Ball used them both and tossed them to the wolves. I hope Scannipieco and Colety learnt something today!
Ball, Colety, McCormack, and Scannipico are attached at the hip. Always have been. They set up this whole thing, to make it look like Ball it shut out, to make it look like Ball is an outsider. Don’t you see? They’re in on this from the beginning. It’s like the fix in reverse. They planned this to help Ball. The know Vinny has the proxies to nominate whoever he wants – this way Ball can run as Mr. Anti Establishment. He probably called them last night after seeing the results in Kentucky, Arkansas, and Pennsylvania, called them, and planned this whole charade. Don’t be fooled! They did it on purpose, so he can have his press conference, and pretend like Mary Beth is the insider when it’s really Greg Ball!!
Ball lost by a 2 to 1 margin.
Ball is running scared and knows he is in trouble. For a guy who had his mommy call and say they did not like negative campaigning he sure does a bunch of it. Take away the negative stuff and he is left with nothing to say. Let’s face it, he was in Albany for four years and has done absolutely nothing for any of his districts. Ball is the career politican, seems that is all he has done. Not sure if he ever had a real job.
Go to Greg Ball’s campaign website and you will see him in many pictures with his good friends Republican Party Chairman who he claims he is not part of. Look at the pictures, Ball is a phony, he will change his pictures after todays episode.
im ball-ed out..
At some point, the Republican electorate will wake up and see Ball for what he is, a self serving narcissist. Mary Beth, never met you, but I hope you beat this low life. Our state deserves much, much, better.
And Ball lost to Degnan by a 10-1 margin. And what happened in that race?????
Same old corrupt deals, same Southeast losers.
this shapes up to be possibly the most interesting
race in westchester this year…it pits an incumbant
assemblyman who will be denied his parties nomination
against a relatively unknown quanity who has the support
of the albany senate campaign committee..notably skelos
and libus…in kentucky a similar bout was determined
last night with rand paul defeating the choice of the
party including the senate minority leader mitch mcconnell
by some 25 points..paul will not and cannot win the general
election but the tea party chimed in and made its voice
heard…watching this should be instructive
I will agree that Degnan was a bad candidate, but Murphy will be hard to defeat. Ball will not be able to use his mano to mano tactics on her, she is smarter then him, she has more experience, she has an excellent record of not raising taxes in her town where she is Supervisor,
kentucky is a red state , the gop candidate paul will sail in..
Here we go again…. It’s Greg Ball against the world all over again. Has anyone stopped to notice that this man has literally done NOTHING since he’s been relected but run for a higher office. If it wasn’t congress then it was state senate. He went from being elected in January 2008, to congressional candidate the following month. Then for some abrupt reason decided to switch to senate with absolutely no lag time between the two! What does he have to show for himself for this last session. He has yet to introduce A SINGLE PIECE OF LEGISLATION this entire session year! Worse yet for someone that alledgedly works all year round as an “Assemblyman” he couldn’t find the time to even introduce legislation. Correct me if I am wrong but isn’t that what “legislators” do, legislate! Sorry but the “poor me” tactics of Mr. Ball are getting pathetic. For someone who has been perpetually campaigning since his relection, not done a single thing legislatively this ENTIRE SESSION needs a little self reflecting time. When will people realize that this is nothing more than a gimmick? So go ahead vote for him because he’s not the “establishment” or because he claims not to be an “insider.” When it comes election time I will be voting for someone who actually does the job the were elected to do.
you can write it as many times as you want but nothing you say is gonna stick to Greg Ball. Ask yourself why borkowski announced for senate in the first place with no intention of running? Because he wanted to pressure the kingmaker for support in ANY election, figuring his running for senate would hurt Leibell’s choice for Senate, Mary Beth. She’ll prove to be another punching bag.
As far as switching races, at least Ball has a perfectly good reason for switching. Leibell has been setting roadblocks in front of Greg for 4 years, and like a typical putnam powerbroker he just doesnt know when to leave it alone. And this was during the supposed peace treaty that Ball was honoring 100%. Then he sees this Hayworth come from NOWHERE and try to run for congress. Ball asked Vinny if he knew her and of course Vinny denied it. Then Ball asked Hayworth, and she bragged about her 20-year friendship with Vinny. So she was put up by Leibell to once again hurt Greg. So Ball decided enough is enough, let’s put an end to this right now, me against you, if you have the guts. And Leibell didn’t. Despite his talk, he wants no fight with Ball. This is a perfectly HONORABLE reason for the switch, one which people admire. Borkowski? Ask him why he switched, or why he even announced for senate in the 1st place, and what scared Vinny off?
